Re: Landry is MIA

If he's preparing on his own and knows what he needs to get done, no big deal. Sucks that he's really the only guy not there though; he seems like a guy that keeps himself in shape so I'm not too worried about that. You should have the respect to respond to your coach though.

Re: Landry is MIA

Landry is a dumbass and a pure 100% idiot. If the coach calls you call him back. It's called respect. If you don't show up to OTA'S I don't have a problem with that. But not calling back the head coach?? WTF??

Re: Landry is MIA

FO aside, this is precisely why we're a mediocre team. If you get a call from your employer, take it or return it to communicate you will/will not participate. It's called being a professional. It's that simple.

As for others on this thread who are in the know about Landry's 5-day-week workout, well, rock on that he's hitting the treadmill with other dudes, but it's not the same. He needs to be with his teammates who are taking the time and initiative to show up, to build a team, camaraderie, chemistry, mindset.

And we're not talking about a $60k employee ditching calls from HR during a sick day, we're talking multi-millionaires with months off from the office. And yes, I know their bodies take a pounding...

Sorry, Landry gets no pass from me, and I can give a rat's ass how Springs and ST used to handle this. I came up during the glory years, when Redskins with Super Bowl rings conducted their own voluntary workouts often b/4 Joe Gibbs even got out of bed. It worked out for them.

I agree 100% that this is a big reason why the Skins are a mediocre team. You mention that he was contacted by his employer and in the Skin's case this is only sort of true. With the Skins, the players see themselves as working for DS not the head coach. Therein lies the problem. The Skin's chain of command is screwed up and until its fixed, and the players think they are working for the head coach, this team will be disfunctional and mediocre. I bet he wouldnt ignore a call from DS.

I'm pretty sure the Skins aren't the only team with players that skip out on voluntary workouts and don't return calls.

Just as an example:
this was the crew missing from Dallas':

K Nick Folk
WR Travis Wilson
WR Sam Hurd
WR Miles Austin
S Courtney Brown
CB Mike Mickens
FB Deon Anderson
CB Terence Newman
TE Rodney Hannah
LB Justin Rogers
LB Stephen Hodge
LB Bradie James
LB Victor Butler
G Kyle Kosier
OT Michael Turkovich
WR Isaiah Stanback
DT Tim Anderson
DE Jason Hatcher
(this was from their OTA last week)
Really is a non-issue, In fact, I would agree with the sentiment that having all but one is a huge positive reflection on the FO. I just hope it all translates in the regular season.

Re: Landry is MIA

The only problem I have is that its a team sport and everyone else is in DC and you know the players take notice of who did not show up.

I don't blame you for sharing your conversation with us. As far as i'm concerned: either Laron didnt talk to you and someone was pulling your leg or he just told you what you wanted to hear.

If the latter is the case, then it would seem landry is being somewhat two-faced.

CAVEAT: The difference between that list of missing players and Landry is that all the players listed above were EXCUSED from OTA's for that particular day. They are there at OTA's and they are not ignoring the phone when the coach calls.

Nick Folk and Isaiah Stanback are coming off injury.

I knew some were excused, I understood they were all missing, but still my point was not to bash the cowboys, no matter how fun, but to point out that one player not in attendance is not an indicator of poor FO style, or any cause for alarm.

True, but most people did because they were better players than Landry, and it showed on the field. LL hasn't fully shown what he can be and that's where the issue lies with me. He thinks he's great but he's just a good FS right now. The problem with LL is that he's on the borderline between good/great, but his work ethic seems to be lacking. Some guys just aren't motivated to be great, which is what it comes down to. The problem I have is that he hasn't shown up at all, and then not calling the coach back is BS. Someone said earlier, if DS called Landry would be sure to pickup his phone.
