You're probably right, I lose track of who's calling who. But i thought I remember he was in touch with someone from the Redskins.

I know we probably shouldnt give this any cred at all, but more tha one person has evidently suggested to Florio that Landry's endgame is not showing up on the field for the Redskins on Sundays (and the occasional Monday) in the fall:

ProFootballTalk.com - LaRon Landry A Chronic No-Show In D.C.[

But is there a deeper issue? We’ve heard some suggestions that perhaps there could be, and whispers that Landry possibly wants out of D.C.

Indeed, the organization apparently assumes that Landry is working out a couple thousand miles from Redskins Park. “You don’t go to Arizona to become a player; maybe to get in shape but not to become a player,” Jackson said Wednesday.

But we’ve been told that, at least at times, Landry has been hanging out in the Washington area.

So we’ll keep an eye on this one. In the end, the player picked right before Adrian Peterson could be playing for another team.
IF (notice the bold) Landry feels, like many of us do, that Jackson isnt taking advantage of his skills in the current scheme (Landry should be playing SS, not FS), then I could see him wanting out. As a practical matter, if Landry isnt used properly, then it minimizes his ability to reach his maximum potential, go to pro-bowls, and ultimately get the biggest contract extension when his rookie deal expires.

Hopefully, this is just a baseless rumor. However, while its possible Landry may not want out of D.C., i tend to think there's more to Landrys absence than meets the eye.

Re: Landry is MIA

the good 'ol folks over at espn seem to think theres at least a possibility.

from the rumors section:

Quote:
LaRon Landry, the sixth overall draft pick in 2007, has some folks in Washington upset as he's skipped the majority of OTA's for the Washington Redskins. Safeties coach Steve Jackson remarked to the Washington Examiner that he was "disappointed" in Landry's no-shows, and head coach Jim Zorn was quoted by the Washington Post's Redskins Insider blog as saying that he thinks Landry's non-attendance is "disappointing to his teammates as well".
It's uncertain whether taking the fatherly stance of "I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed" will work with Landry, a potential star player who is allegedly working out in Arizona this offseason. So far it's just been Jackson announcing his disappointment and Zorn indicating that he thinks the other players are disappointed, a far cry from being publicly called out by one of the veterans on the roster.

In spite of this, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk thinks that Landry could be angling to be traded, and has heard "suggestions" that there could be a more substantial issue with Landry's non-attendance at voluntary sessions during both preseasons of his NFL career.

As for 'Skins secondary coach Jerry Gray, he'd rather that Landry stick around, telling the Examiner, "LaRon can become an elite safety. He has the tools."

Pure speculation. In fact I don't think I've ever seen speculation done so poorly, even for PFT. This is basically the equivalent of a weatherman guessing that it's going to snow in Florida. Sure it's possible and it's even happened at one point or another but no one's going to hold their breath.

Thats it I'm so putting this amazing insight on my Twitter page.

Nothing like a good old June conspiracy theory from PFT. He didn't show up for most of last year either, this isn't a big deal. If he had skipped the mandatory mini camp and/or holds out of training camp let me know, until there it's a whole bunch of nothing.

I think it's a stretch to say he wants out.

Yeah what the hell! I've never heard about Landry wanting out before this thread and whatever rumor came up. Where would he want to play? Few defenses have the potential this one does now...

Re: Landry is MIA

I would hope it isn't true, but on the other hand, if he wants out & the team could somehow get a mint for him, let him go. As it is now, he's a good free safey but he's highly paid for the role he plays & I think it's a relatively deep position. K. Moore looks like he could work out.

This whole "not returning calls/texts" thing just smacks of ego and self importance, not to mention unprofessional and passive aggressive. Kind of High School pouty girlfriend-ish. If I had to guess, I'd say her feelings are hurt from when Danny started paying more attention to D'Angelo halfway through last semester.

Why would anyone including Laron Landry think he should be playing SS? That would be a tremendous waste of the fact that Landry is

a)the #1 fastest safety in the entire league. The resource of elite speed is best allocated to the essential coverage of open space responsibilities that are the paramount role of any safety in the first place.

b)not quite big enough to dish out punishment on the likes of Brandon Jacobs and Marion Barber without breaking down during the course of a season with the full time run stopping duties of a SS in the NFC East.

Landry is very versatile and could be a good SS, but it would be a massive waste of his talent which is 100% suited to FS in the NFL.

Re: Landry is MIA

Landry is not MIA.
This is the OFF SEASON. Leave the guy alone. Either the NFL changes the name of VOLUNATRY workouts to mandatory workouts or NFL coaches and FO people need to keep their mouths shut when a player decides to pass on voluntary WO's.
Why is Zorn airing team issues in the press? Zorn is the one that sounds like a child," I think it's disappointing to his teammates as well (that Landry is not here)," Zorn said. Some of the players were crying and very upset.

What is so life theatening that Landry needs to return these calls? To hear his coaches complain and try to guilt him to come in on his off time? Landry is not a lazy fat cow like some of our other players that need to be watched, babied and put on diets. Landry is a fit professional and knows how to prepare for the season. The coaches are not installing a new playbook. They are not re-inventing the wheel. This is football not brain surgery.

The OTA's really geared to lazy guys our rookie WR's from last year that show up to their first NFL camp and did care enough to be in shape, thus they played like shit.
Let Landry enjoy his time away from work and allow him to be a happy Redskin.

As for his exact location right now I can't tell you, But, I can confirm that Landry, his brother, and a former teammate at LSU are in the gym AT LEAST 5 days a week. A good friend of mine works out at the same gym in Slidell, ( where Laron lives), and says he sees them almost every time he goes. (4-5 days a week)
