He did in fact win the popular vote. He just didn't win over 50 percent of the votes cast.
Ronald Reagan in 1984 won every state except Minnesota and I believe 57 percent of the vote. Nixon in 1972 won almost every state and I think over 60 percent. And yet if such a result was obtained today, you'd have people saying "but you need 70 percent for a mandate......" |
