I think his 15 years in the NFL will certainly help. He knows the deal.
No doubt Harbaugh seems to have the drive that Spurrier lacked. That will definitely be a big factor in whether he makes it at the next level.

Re: NFL Coaching Rumors and Moves

Look I am not saying he won't be a good coach in the pros. I am saying just based on his college success, NFL experience as a player and his kin doesn't translate into that kind of salary.

Don't say the free market has spoken. The NFL is quite the opposite of a purely private entity. It is also hyper inflated by a certain media network. I was listening to Mike and Mike this morning, and he was mentioning exactly what I was thinking about last night. The salary is a flaw in the system and needs to be regulated, just like the rookie salary. When you create a regulated league which is given monopolistic rights, it needs to be kept in check constantly.

The reason the Dolphins are paying that much is because they really want him and don't want him going elsewhere. Jim Harbaugh is the real deal, trust me. His brother John was a special teams coach at Philly for years and look how that turned out? Jim has 15 years experience as player and 2 as a QB coach in the NFL, he has a passion, fire and is very competitive, remember him as "captain comeback". At one point someone has to give him a chance. Remember when Joe Gibbs was hired by the Redskins, people were going who the hell is this guy?

Hey, I'm not arguing that it helps them be a better coach, I'm just saying teams look at that as a positive. I'm not a fan of hiring college coaches at all just because of the Spurrier ordeal. Hoo you should know by now that sometimes logic doesn't always work in the NFL. Spurrier never should've been hired in the first place but that didn't stop Snyder. Same thing with all the other retread college coaches, Bobby Petrino never should've left college football.

EDIT: And could've mentioned this before but he runs a pro style offense at Stanford. If you think that doesn't factor into it as well you'd be wrong.

And most of his staff at Standford are ex-NFL coaches like Vic Fangio the DC.

Re: NFL Coaching Rumors and Moves

I think Harbaugh will be an exception to the rule, but its a super gamble to take a college coach and then on top to give him a ton of money. Listening to Chris Landry the other day, he was saying the best coaches were first seasoned cordinators. To give a college coach over 5 mil per season in his first NFL HC job is absurd

I really don't get why Jim Harbaugh is getting so much attention. 7 mil per year??? lol. Only in the NFL does silly stuff like this happen. Like the guy has a magic wan or something. He's done a GREAT job at Stanford but the NFL IS NOT the Pac Ten. And regarding his brother, just cause John does a good job has nothing to do with Jim. Having a solid owner and a top front office sure helps John's cause. Not saying Jim's going fail but he's got no track record in the NFL as a head coach or even as a coordinator.

We shall see, especially if he goes to Miami with Jeff Ireland.

Which is what I said about 2 pages ago. It's one thing to look at a college coach and express oppinions about how he will make it at the Pro level when he doesn't run a pro system. But Harbaugh runs a pro system so I doubt that will be an issue. Where I think his problems will present itself is who he brings in to his coaching staff.

Check out his current staff at Stanford some names will sound familiar.

Re: NFL Coaching Rumors and Moves

I wonder why the owner of the Dolphins isn't catching any flack for going after a new coax& even when you already have a coach in place. Just imagine if Dan Snyder did that?
