Of course, if they get a DE I don't think he should be a pass-rushing specialist like Wilson. He needs to be able to play the run effectively as well.
I think they're very content with Montgomery's progress, but Golston already is all that he'll ever be in the NFL. He's a very hard worker, but in the end isn't big enough, strong enough, or quick enough to be a front-line starter in the NFL. He's a good 3rd DT, good in a rotation. But if he were a full time starter I wouldn't feel great about the interior line.

Montgomery has the size and quickness to be force. But with Griffin getting older, I can see the logic for wanting a young DT.

You may or may not be right about Golston, but he is 6-4 320 pounds. Thats ideal, for a tackle. He also ran one of the fastest 40yd dashes at the combine, for a DT.

I wouldn't say Golston is as good now as he's ever going to be...he's 25. He will likely develop into a starting caliber player...for someone else. There's not going to be enough cash on hand after the 2009 campaign to give to Golston an extention, and he will probably go and sign for a team who has a need at the position.

Vinny did mention the need for an interior lineman with some rush ability, the type that's very difficult to find. It does apear to be more of a priority than DE. He eluded to the 20.5 sacks from the DE position last year, maybe he feels that is sufficient production from the DE position.
