Re: Next On Deck: The Packers.

I was quite impressed with our front four on D against Detroit! GB will be a little tougher, and we MUST chase Brett around a little bit out the 4, int Brett of old we all know and love.
If we can do that, I think the rest wil take care of itself. Moss and El' are a must

Everyone who has played the Lions has impressed with their D-Line because the Lions O-Line is the worst in the league. I don't look for the same successes against GB. We will have to be a little more creative in my opinion.

Re: Next On Deck: The Packers.

The Packers will come out on fire after blowing the Bears game in th second half. I hope we can match that intensity. If we can keep our cool through the opening stages when the crowd is going nuts, then we will eventually prevail because we are a better team than they are. The Packers don't have a very good offensive line and they pass a lot so its last week all over again in a way. Defensively they have players but I think Cooley will have his first big game and we will run the ball 35 or 40 times. I think we win this like 19 -6 or some such score. We will be ultra-cautious on offense and rely on the D to bring us home.

Re: Next On Deck: The Packers.

Wasn't it 04' when we played them, and towards the end of a close game that we had a controversial penalty that negated a touchdown that cost us the game in the closing moments? I remember being all kinds of hot after that lose. And I think Gibbs got a league fine for basically saying that was a horse-sh*t call.

Exactly. Everyone is focusing on Brett Favre and the offense but it is Green Bays defense that is really winning games for them this season. Favre has been playing very well, largely because he is making better decisions with the ball and not turning it over (until the end of Bears game). Obviously the Skins D is central to their success and will be this whole season, but their ability to establish a running game and for Jason to make good decisions against the best secondary he has faced this season will be the real key. The Packers secondary, corners especially, are very physical and they seemed to play a lot of man coverage against the Bears. Hopefully Moss will play and Campbell will finally connect on one of those deep balls. Still my point is that the Lions defense, secondary especially, is atrocious. Jason's play was very encouraging, but the Packers provide a much better test this week. Tough game at a tough venue. Skins 17, Packers 13

Agreed. The Packers secondary is pretty good. I wouldn't be upset if we focused heavily on the run game at Lambeau. The Packers passing game so far seems concentrated on slant routes....ehhhhxcellent. Poor Donald Driver, I suspect he won't fancy his initial meetng with Sean Taylor.

This is going to a very very tough road game for us. Gb has very good bump and run corners. We are going to have to be able to run the ball this week. But it is certainly winable. It just feels good having a huge conference game with something on the line. I know I'm going to be jacked!

Green Bay is not a good defense against the pass. They are far from horrible, but neither corner is young anymore and it really shows. Those safeties are terrible. They have been a very solid running defense, and we haven't really been a great running team thus far. I think we need to exploit our matchups through the air often, while still paying dues to the running game. We really need our play action this week.

The Packers have been gawdawful defending the pass against receivers and tight ends. The reason they aren't getting killed in the passing game is because they have been unbelieveable at stopping the backs on routes out of the backfield. So this shouldn't be too hard for Campbell so long as we run play action and get the ball out of his hands quickly. That pass rush isn't to shabby. I think we will score a few TDs on these guys.

Bench Portis and Betts in your fantasy leagues, but it's safe to roll with Campbell, Moss, Cooley, and Randle El this week.

Re: Next On Deck: The Packers.

Here's a question: will Kedric Golston remain inactive for a 2nd week. I think Gibbs said they did because Golston is mainly a run-stopper and since Detroit is almost all pass it made sense. Well, seems like same situation in Green Bay.
I'm just kind of surprised by the Golston think because lots of folks really played him up after last season. I remember the team site posting a write-up about Golston as an apprentice to Grif. Now the guys not even active.

Montgomery must have really impressed the coaches. Good point though about Golston being a run-stopper. Detriot isn't a running team and neither are the Packers, there is no need for him.
