Given the swiss cheese "defenses" under Spurrier, I would blame the coaches. I remember going to the Tampa Bay game when they still had Keyshawn. The Bucs ran the same play three times in a row (I was literally in the last row behind the Bucs at the time and I could see the whole field if you know what I mean). It was a simple 3 receiver set and they put one wideout in motion going right to left setting up in the slot. First play, first down to McCardell (covered and tackled by Bowen). Second play first down to McCardell (covered and tackled by Bowen). Third play, Keyshawn fakes that he will turn around goes to the post and gets a 41 yard TD ("covered" by Bowen). I was beside myself.

I don't think that a lot of people realize how far they have come in two years. The defense under Spurrier made you want to throw up.
didnt we have marvin lewis and a top 5 defense one year spurrier was here?

Give both the ax! We can do better in FA or the draft. It's all about what Greg Williams wants out of that position.

According to ESPN.com:

Washington defense was 5th in 2002 and 25th in 2003.

That's quite a drop off over one year.

my point was that we had good defense the one year we had lewis and spurrier, so trotter was in a good defense

He most defiently can change a game, like in Seattle when they ran a run fake and hit their RB in the flat for a big firstdown while Arrington bit, only to see Williams yank him out of the lineup immediatly. whenever the opposing team needs a big play Arrington is willing to comply.

All Clemons can do is rush the passer? If Arrington could only do that.

I know. I'm just shocked at how there was such a drop off over one year.

Not like that misdirection to Marcus Washington's side to Mack Strong. He was definitely in position on that play, that's why Mack Strong picked up his best run of his professional career. How come only LaVar gets blamed when "big" plays happen? Who was screwing up the D against Denver and Kansas City when LaVar was watching the game?

Re: Clemons or Arrington?

That was Warrick Holdman. I really WOULD love to see another LB step up, "just in case".

Re: Clemons or Arrington?

So TAFKAS, Campbell is great on special teams, would you rather risk injury by playing him on actual defense?

Re: Clemons or Arrington?

I know Warrick Holdman was playing poorly, I'm just pointing out that it seems like a lot of people on this site have a tendency to try to find any play that LaVar misses and point it out and use that as a reason why he shouldn't be on the team. It's aggravating that it doesn't happen to anyone else. It bugs me when people downplay the impact he had against the Bucs. I said that day that without LaVar and Sean Taylor, they lose that game. I believe that. LaVar had a great game that day, he didn't play poorly all year. If you want to make the case that he's overpaid, I'll listen, but I get sick of people acting like he can't play.
