Re: Off season begins.

Curious to know where specifically anyone feels that this year's team was better than last year's version.

Here are my feelings-
QB- same, beat up the slackers & choke in tough games
RB- same (amateurs)
TE/WR- same (solid both years)
OL - same (great pass pro, can't run block)

DL-worse (old)
LB- worse (just as slow)
CB-same to worse
S- same old shit

K- worse
P-same

The other thing that bugs me is paying Josh Norman $75M for 2 personal fouls to help the other team score. Jay G should've have pulled his ass out to send a message.
The guy keeps putting his own agenda ahead of the team's.

I feel like the Eagles are on their way up, the Giants have proven they are better than us & Dallas is the class of the league. I just don't see a lot of hope for next year.

That falls on Scott IMO.
I wasn't wild about the draft (especially when it was loaded with DT & we end up with Ioannidis- wow, thanks Scott)

He's got some work ahead of him before we can be contenders.

Joe Barry should be fired, but the next man in won't be able to work magic without more talent.

I'd be careful about placing "labels" on any team outside of New England, Green Bay, Pittsburgh, Seattle, and Baltimore (although, they've missed the postseason the past two seasons).

Those are the ONLY teams who have shown a level of consistency in this league in the past 5-10 seasons. Everyone else has been up-and-down or just flat-out sucked.

Until, I see a level of consistency from anyone in the NFC East, then you just don't know.

The 2016 draft does leave a lot to be desired, but if three players turn out alright (Cravens seems to be on his way), then the draft was a success. It's still too early to "call out" this draft, per se'.

Sure, SMAC has his work out cut out for us to be a contender, but I want him to build this thing where we're routinely competing like the teams I mentioned above. Outside of the Pats, Steelers, and Packers, who all have HOF'er type QB's who can carry their respective teams.... The Ravens and Seahawks have solid and steady QB play, but have solid line play (Seattle O-line struggled this season) on both sides of the ball, and defenses who can win or help win games.

I agree, in reference to Barry being fired. Bring in a more competent coordinator, and start building the defense.

How did we have a winning season, were strongly competitive in 14 games & just miss the playoffs on the last weekend of the season?

And the Eagles on the way up? We smoked them twice and they got the most holes to fill in the division by far. Doug Peterson was not a very good in his first season

Forget about the Eagles. What part of Bangees post do you disagree with? I think his summation is spot on.
I do agree we were very competitive, and it is a credit to something or someone because of all the holes that he pointed out. At the end of the day though we are probably getting beat in the first round no doubt. So yes we still are a ways off from championship caliber

because I don't think its correct. As a team we played competitive football, but less consistency we showed last year down the stretch. Last year we won the Detriot, Cincy and G-Men games...this year we didn't. Thin margins. But I think another infusion of talent with the draft and I think a more aggressive approach in free agency we will be in the playoffs again.

We arent far people.

Offensively we pretty much re-wrote the franchise record book, defensively not so much, some of the more impressive highlights:

* The Redskins broke the franchise record for total net yards in a single season (6,253 in 1989) with 6,454.

* The Redskins (6.40) setting a single-season team record for yards per play (6.17 in 2012).

* The 2016 Redskins (403.3) became the first team in franchise history to average 400 yards per game.

* The Redskins had a team-record three 500-yard games this season.

* The Redskins (407) breaking the team record for completions in a single season (386 in 2015).

* The Redskins (228) breaking the team record for passing first downs in a single season (217 in 1989).

* The Redskins featured multiple 1,000-yard receivers for the first time since 1999 (Albert Connell and Michael Westbrook).

* Quarterback Kirk Cousins finishing the season as third in NFL history in completion percentage (65.9) behind Drew Brees (66.7) and Chad Pennington (66.0). Cousins reached the 1,500-attempt threshold needed to qualify in Week 16 at Chicago.

* Cousins broke the team record in passing yards this season (4,917).

* Cousins (304.8) became the first quarterback in team history to average 300 passing yards per game in a season. The previous record was 269.1, set by Mark Rypien in 1989.

* Cousins registering the seventh 25-touchdown passing season in team history, joining Sonny Jurgensen (31 in 1967), himself (29 in 2015), Joe Theismann (29 in 1983), Jurgensen (28 in 1966), Mark Rypien (28 in 1991) and Sammy Baugh (25 in 1947).

* Garçon and DeSean Jackson posted their second 1,000- yard receiving season with the Redskins to join Gary Clark (five), Art Monk (five), Santana Moss (three), Henry Ellard (three), Ricky Sanders (two) and Bobby Mitchell (two) as the only players with multiple 1,000-yard receiving seasons in team history.

* Kicker Dustin Hopkins had single-season career highs in field goals (34) and points (138), the latter ranking fourth on the franchise's single-season scoring list. Hopkins broke Mark Moseley's record (33 in 1983) for the most field goals in a single season in team history.

Re: Off season begins.

Redskins rookie Su'a Cravens said "I can't wait" to play safety next season. He will work out with former Redskins safety Ryan Clark and Giants safety Landon Collins in the offseason.

I like this kid, and Collins is the best S in football right now.

Great, looks like one less hole to fill!

Re: Off season begins.

Why can't we just go back to a 4-3 defense. We have so many holes to fill why not scrap the 3-4 it's not working.

Been a question for a while now.

Because we're already in the 4-3 the majority of the time. Doesn't matter what you play if you don't have the talent.

I agree, that's why it doesn't make sense to go 3-4 base on most 1st downs without a true NT?

A good LB is easier to find than a good NT. Also, NT is a bit of a unique animal who occupies a niche roster spot and isn't good for anything else. Why have a guy who can only play the limited number of snaps in base.

From the stand point of finding talent, 4-3 DT are much easier to find in the draft.

While the end of the 2016 was a disappointment I think the team is trending in the right direction. There is still lots of room for improvement and I think the #1 thing to address in the off=season is the D. The Skins D as currently constructed just didn't allow them to a real chance to win over the long haul.

Agreed, yet.. they really did put together a few very.. impressive 2nd half performances this season inclouding sunday .. the offense IMO is just as much and some games much much more to blame.
