The more and more I think about this, the less sense it makes. You have a defensive coach who brought this team from the thirty first ranked defense to thirteen overall in just one year. He has a bad half and Shannahan makes a knee jerk reaction to let a coach who's defense (Tampa), ranked 30th overall last year, take over playing calling? This was after Orakpo, Carriker and Josh Wilson left the game to injuries! His reasoning would have been better play calling would make up for three crucial parts of our defense? I'm not buying it.
This goes against the grain of how Shannahan has handled other adversary circumstances regarding coaches. If this were true, Danny Smith would have been stripped of his responsibilities long ago.
This is a rumor, and until something concrete comes out, it will stay just that.
