Brandon Brooks, G, Miami (Ohio)

Brooks is a 6'5'', 346-pound mammoth offensive lineman, who after not being invited to the combine, is certainly gliding under the radar.

However, he won't be overlooked come draft time.

I admittedly have not seen a ton of his tape, but I know his pro day workout drew rave reviews earlier this week and can cite one credible draft outlet's scouting report.

Sportsxchange.com had this to say about the Redhawks' star trenchman:

Has good natural strength and raw power with the ability to be a mauler in the run game. Plays with a firm base with a stout anchor, holding his ground at the point of attack. Keeps his pad level low and flashes consistent leverage. Stays balanced and patient in his stance. Has overpowering upper body strength to overwhelm and eliminate defenders from the play. Jolts with his hands and shows a strong initial push. Quick off the snap and moves well for his size. Offers versatility with experience at left tackle and both guard spots.

He'll be a likely option in the third or fourth round for a team looking for a versatile offensive lineman that seems to be NFL-ready. Seems like he has some Carl Nicks to him, doesn't he?
This is not the type of player Shanny wants for his line. Since he has a ZBS, he wants smaller, quicker linemen that are more athletic. This would not be a good fit for our system.

Nothing about his description says he wouldn't be a good fit for our system unless you think quick off the snap and moves well for his size or has overwhelming strength to overwhelm and eliminate defenders from the play or offers versatility to play any position on the line in case of injury is not a good fit for a guard on this team.

It's not about his skill set. It's about his size. Shanny does not typically have huge, hulking 340 pound linemen. He likes smaller, quicker ones. Just because his scouting report says he is quick off the snap, he's still quick off the snap for a 340 pound linemen. That's most likely not as quick as a smaller, more agile lineman.

Hard to be choosy in the 3rd round. I would like a few others before these as well but 3rd round is usually not a round to pick the lineman of your choice as if you know they would still be there in the 3rd and not have to worry about it. We would be lucky to get such talent in the 3rd. Not saying there isn't talent in the 3rd and they might find a quick lineman. But this is good talent and I'm sure he is quick enough for Shanny. He is as good a guard as we have now for sure.
