Carolina had the first overall pick, not the same situation. Cincy is a good example, although I believe they had to do it out of necessity...also I think Mike Brown is a lucky SOB.

The Redskins can't go into the draft without a viable FA QB, otherwise they'd get murdered in an effort to trade up.

This. Plus, without a viable FA QB, the chances are increased that another QB hungry team will leapfrog us because they will know that we are desperate for a QB. Having a viable FA QB on the roster already makes us harder to figure out on draft day.

Actually the situation that bodes best for us comes if the Browns sign Matt Flynn and the Dolphins sign Peyton Manning. That would take our two biggest competitors out of the equation. The last remaining threat would be Seattle who would either give up a ton of picks or select some random QB earlier then expected.

However the more likely situation is the Dolphins sign Matt Flynn and the Browns go into the draft looking for a QB.

You dont think the Browns can sign a FA like Flynn and pick up RG3 as well?

Matt Flynn is going to be the guy wherever he goes. We're talking about signing a guy to something in the area of 6 years $59 million with around $24 million guaranteed (Ryan Fitzpatricks contract).

If this was a situation like year 2 of the Kevin Kolb experiment then yeah they could easily go for someone like RGIII, but you can bank on any team signing Matt Flynn not using an early pick on a QB in 2012.

Green Bay Packers backup quarterback Matt Flynn could go from making $600,000 a year to $9 million annually - Jeff Diamond - SI.com

Teams are doing their due diligence on Flynn now before they commit to the expected $10 million per year deal that it will take to sign him. Teams know all about the backup made good success stories of Tom Brady (former sixth-rounder, backed up his first year), Rodgers (No. 1 pick who sat behind Brett Favre for three years) and Tony Romo (undrafted, backed up in Dallas for three years before getting his shot).

Thats CRAZY, the man has played good in like 2 games, what he has done is not worth that money! i really hope we stay away from him and I hope the Browns sign him.

Thats the business side of the NFL. There are plenty of GM's and scouts out there saying exactly what you're saying in regards to how his minimal experience is turning into a huge payday. However there are also plenty of GM's and scouts that see Flynn as the chance to get in on the ground floor of something special.

Either way the market will provide Flynn with a huge pay day and at least one year of job security.

True story. Its just like how people are saying RG3 is too much of a risk, everyone is a risk, nobody knows what is going to happen for sure with any players future (manning, rg3, flynn, etc.) this includes every position. That being said Im aboard the RG3 train.

Are we in a position to draft a guy and let him sit? I don't think we are.

Probably yes and probably no, depending on how the FA situation shakes out. If we get RG3, he'll be a day 1 starter. But I don't know about anyone after him, unless the coaching staff knows they've found the next Andy Dalton.

Exactly. RGIII and Luck are both day 1 guys. Guys like Tannehill could start midseason or possibly win the job in camp but it would be an uphill battle. And I have a hard time believing they'll fare much better then Ponder.
