But aside from that, Jenkins and Carriker will both get a lot of playing time. If Jenkins doesn't start I don't think that means his future is doomed to mediocrity.

My priorities for Carriker are as follows.

1. Stand up guys at the point of attack and if possible try to draw double teams. Bottom line, keep guys off our linebackers.

2. Shed blocks and make plays at the line of scrimage or in the backfield on runs

3. Bull Rush guys on passing downs and make the pocket slightly more uncomfortable.

4. Break away from blockers and get to the QB.

Basically his main job is to keep guys off our linebackers and hold up at the point of attack. If he goes all Haynesworth that leaves Fletcher and *ehhem* Tatpu vulnerable and anyone thats played football knows it's tough to be engaging a blocker head on one second and then getting off him into a position to properly wrap up a ball carrier. Most D-Lineman do it with shear size not technique. Thats what linebackers are for (proper tackling technique) and also why it's important to keep them untouched.
