Most Ridiculous Contract Ever?

I'm sure Mets' fans are glad they put off paying Bonilla so they could sign guys like Mike Hampton

How the heck does a 25yr contract happen for anyone not named Nolan Ryan...in 1968?

Good job, Bret.

Re: Most Ridiculous Contract Ever?

Somehow it's not surprising that in this story on the malcontent Bobby Bonilla there would appear a mention of "Operation Shutdown" Derek Bell.

Bonilla seemed at his happiest and had his best reputation during the few years in which he had a guy by the name of Barry Bonds batting behind him, although his post-Pittsburgh years weren't all bad. He was one of four players on that '96 Orioles team to have 100+ RBI. That's a pretty amazing stat (Palmiero had a whopping 142 with a relatively non-steroid looking 39 homers, although the same can't be said for Anderson's 50).
