Re: Super Bowl XLV

Of course you need more than just a QB, but there's no doubt that teams with the big time QBs are the ones that are always in the hunt at season's end.

Aaron Rodgers only has a decent O-Line as do the Steelers. Steelers get the nod because they can actually run the ball on a regular basis.

The main reason both QB's have been successful is because both Ben and Aaron have become masters of improvising and moving around while still remaining accurate. People were expecting the next evolution of QB's to be a bunch of guys like Vick but rather we ended up with a relatively large group of Steve Young incarnates. Plus with all the crazy blitz packages in the NFL these days it seems that you need either A) A QB with a ridiculously quick release (ie Peyton) or a guy with great pocket awareness and mobility (Big Ben, Rodgers).

Also keep in mind both Super Bowl QB's have been among the most sacked QB's over the course of the past two years. Our main problem as it relates to our problems up front is that we've had virtually 0 resources poured into our line before 2010 (where we saw 5 players added).

And yet the redskins streak of playing the super bowl winning team the past 4 years stands.

Was it just me or did Randel El celebrate his catches like he had score TD's. He was the only one that I noticed over celebrating everything they did.

He's always done that stuff

I did. Our franchise has things it can learn from the successful ones. The thing I notice the most on the winning teams is the players and coaches respect each other. No public throwing each other under the bus. They enjoy working together. What a concept.

Meh, Shanahan made a gaffe when he first benched McNabb, but McNabb was a sick little bitchy ****ing coward with the whole agent ordeal.

Like Tiki and Tom Coughlin? Its a good general statement, but there is more to it then just that. And again Shanahan has been successful in the past and hopefully will be in the future.

Shahahan has been successful with one of the best, if not the best QB of all time. He's already proven that he's really not a great personel man. Say what you will about Coughlin but he's a damn good football coach. I wouldn't want to play for him but he's a proven winner with two teams.

Very rare does that happen though most SB teams have big time QBs

That was kind of my point. Not every SB winning coach, or great coach, has perfect people skills. Shanahan may or may not be able to get past AH/McNabb of this year, but people have to remember this is year 1. Regardless of win now, he had to get on the playing field and see who could do what. I personally think he just didn't want the ongoing JC saga to distract and thought, mistakenly, that McNabb would give him a non-distraction at QB. His first year in Denver he went 8-8. It was an up and down season. He went 6-10 here. Let's give another year (maybe 2) and see how many distractions the team has. My guess is it will be fewer each year, and our win loss record will improve each year as well.
