I usually come in through the home page but that's because I can usually type faster than open bookmarks or whatever other method of entry to the site. My biggest beef with the home page is that the easiest way to access all forums is via a dropdown menu. So it takes it following different links for the crawlers to get back to the actual home page and forum groupings to scour all content efficiently. But as far as search engine optimization, the higher up the page the better.. but if it's not able to be crawled, not so good.
