You know I keep thinking about this "we're not a good football team" thing.

I don't know how people define that, but we rarely get outplayed. Most of what I've observed over the past 10 games is that we've beat ourselves or we were just not prepared.

We played on the road last week and had zero procedure penalities on offense. This week, we had at least two or three. So there's no theoretical reason that the team should be more antsy against the Rams than the Giants, so that leads me to think that Thomas' injury might have had some degree of a ripple effect on the offensive line.

If it's not just executing, but thinking and then trying to execute, that's when you get procedure penalties. Not home vs. road.

I think I concur. I think we have FAR better talent than our play indicates. While we have definate weak spots, there are FAR less talented teams playing FAR better ball. The guys and staff are going to have to make it.......gel!
We'll see against the Mighty Lions?

As long as Barry Sanders isn't suiting up, I like our chances.

All losing streaks end at some point. What better opponent for the lowly Lions than one that can't score?

Well, there's Brett Favre for one.

The Lions defense is more professional than last year, but the offense is worse and they don't have the pass rush to make the game changing plays.

I don't expect a team playing Chad Rinehart in his first career start to light up the scoreboard, but we're not a particularly ideal matchup for the Lions.

Part of the not being able to score problem is being ahead for most of the game. Less urgency. So it's not even a sign of futility really, it's just more of an annoying occurrence that leaves bad opponents in the game into the 4th quarter.

Brett Favre? How so?

You think one of the problems on offense is simply their mindset?

Well, if I was going to try to snap an 18 game losing streak, I'd probably want Favre throwing passes on the other team.

I think their mindset of "it's okay if we come away with three" is a problem. Not as bad as the execution in the red zone has been, but that's a luck factor to an extent. Why can we run between the 20's and not in the red zone? Doesn't make any sense.

I'd also like to see us avoid the 1st and goal situations altogether sometimes. Got second and 6 at the 14? Throw the thing in the end zone.

Well if you're always beating yourself and you're not prepared then what does that make you? I don't think we're bad, we're just average. I think we're well coached on defense. I think we're poorly coached on offense.

Please defend this claim. I'll take just one example.

I never see blown coverages, guys seem to be in position. We don't give up a lot of big plays.

I could be wrong, but I think today our CBs were not playing well and were giving the Rams WRs a lot of room.

That's true, the DB's didn't play all that well today. But I didn't see guys blowing coverages. STL scored 7 points so in two weeks the defense has given up 23?

Fair enough.

Couldn't you say exactly the same thing about our offense, that we never take obscenely negative plays on offense, we just sometimes end up in third and long thanks to uninspired first and second down play?

Well yes there aren't a lot of neagative plays cause the offense is conservative. But that doesn't mean we're not poorly coached on offense.
