I'm no Favre apologist, but I think it has more to do with a common story line. A player/coach displays a genuine side, he gets celebrated for the image that his otherwise genuine nature reflects, but then he gets caught up in that image and starts overtly trying to preserve it, and suddenly starts looking like a phony. That's certainly the Favre story line.

I don't know if he always was an attention whore, but I certainly agree he is now.
