Either way it was nothing but a couple quips of positivitey.

You heard anything in specific about him?
been an absolute ballhawk so far is what I've heard

I wonder if Chase is going to be this year's Colt. LOL.
He's my Colt!

Re: Redskins June 2009 OTAs

I was less than impressed with this interview of Stan Hixon.

Stan Hixon Is A Patient Man

Particularly the part when he says that this year he decided to spend extra time with Thomas and Kelly to go over plays and assignments. Shouldn't that have been done last year?

For whatever reason, I'm just not a big Stan Hixon fan. Hopefully Thomas and Kelly will have nice seasons and prove me wrong.

Not that I'm a Stan Hixon fan, but weren't Thomas and Kelly out for most of the offseason last year?

The way I read it was, Terl asked Hixon what he could do differently from last year, and his response sounded like he regretted not working more closely with Thomas and Kelly last season. Thomas' hammy and Kelly's knee definitely hurt their offseasons, but that doesn't mean Hixon shouldn't have been extensively going over plays, assignments, etc.

I guess the way I took it was he felt like he didn't work with the newbies enough last year. That's not really excusable when you use two of your first three draft picks on a position of such need.

Maybe I'm nitpicking. I hope that's the case.

What he ^ said. One would have thought after the class room portion of the learning the plays and play calls, while Moss and ARE were on the field, Hixon could have spent more time with DT and MK. If nothing else simply quizing them on play calls and what route is to be run. So when DT did finally see the field he would know all the routes by heart. All he should have to have done was learn the tricks of the trade like how to get seperation, how to throw off the DB. Things like that.

What 5 yrs and Hixon simply has not impressed me with his teaching skills. Oh well.

I agree. I just think Hixon is this really good guy, who hasn't done anything "bad" to be released, he just does not seem like he's an inspiring coach. But, as Matty would point out, the FO/Coaching Staff know more, so we will have another year to see what he can do. (not that we will have any reasonable metric to prove anything at the end of the season.)

The impression I got was that he was saying last year with them not coming on as fast as expected (largely due to injuries) he was only able to work on the basics of an NFL offense with them, and now he's going into greater detail.

I had a feeling people would find something to harp on with the Hixon interview no matter what he said. He's the official coaching scapegoat for whatever reason.

I think Hixon is a decent coach. Nothing special about him really. But I don't know that replacing him would make any big difference for us.

Maybe you have been asked this before, but I am just wondering how you would judge the performance of an assistant coach? Or is it - in your opinion - a position impossible for a fan to review?

Smootsmack started this with his question several years ago as to whether the Skins problems lay with the position coaches... since then we have begun speculating on various positions with the focus, of late, honing in on Hixon. Has it all been mindless, pointless chatter? If so, can we blame SS?

Tough to judge, but I think fans are usually too critical of coaching in general and don't lay enough blame with the players. With our WR corps I'd argue under Hixon we haven't exactly had an overwhelming amount of talent. Moss is a borderline #1. Randle El is better suited as a #3, etc.

The anti-Hixon crowed seems to focus on this notion that he hasn't developed any young talent. Fair enough, but I'd argue what quality young talent has he been given to develop prior to Kelly and Thomas last year? Sorry but scrubs like Mix and Espy don't qualify to me. And for some reason Hixon's critics seem to overlook the fact that Moss and Randle El have both enjoyed career years under Hixon, but I guess for some reason Hixon should get no credit for that.

The fact he's been with the team for 6 years now has to count for something. If he was such a problem as some want to think I just find it hard to believe he wouldn't have been replaced by now. Especially with a head coaching change it would have been the perfect opportunity to bump him out.

Of course we can blame SS. When in doubt, just look his way.

Depends onwhere you go, each QB has a strong following of fans. While both have looked good in the OTA's i feel Colt is ahead because he was drafted by Zorn and has more experience in the offense. When i see Daniel jerseys for sale i will retract my statement.

I cant wait for camp and preseason to see how the offense performs year 2 in the WCO.
