Re: Will Jason Campbell return?

I'll answer only because I'm new here (even though I've answered this & had a dozen fights over it on another Redskins site)...

I like Campbell. I think he's better then the "haters" give him credit for. Jaws had him as the MVP of the League halfway thru the season last year. What people fail to realize often times is that no matter who we have at QB, if he spends 3 of 4 passing plays running for his life or staring up at the sky, he isn't going to succeed. The OL was the biggest issue we had after week 9 & seemingly 6 blockers could not stop 3 blitzers for the remainder of the season. The RBs, TEs, most of the WRs were not available to make catches because they were now employed to help protect Campbell so that he could throw to the only 1 or 2 WRs left that were NOT occupied by blockers. And with that came less time to throw, which meant less time to go thru progressions which often led to a 1 to 3 step drop back & quick out to Moss, Cooley, or ARE.

That said, I do NOT think Campbell will be back next year, regardless of what happens. I don't think this FO has learned all of it's lessons in this area & this offseasons activities has shown us yet again that their lack of faith in him can deteriorate fast. I think Campbell will have a break out season & prove the "haters" wrong...and then thumb his nose at us & go somewhere else to get away from the enormous pressure that comes with being the starting QB for the Washington Redskins that seemingly does not exist in other cities, at least not at this level.

Now, I am NOT a Jason Campbell fan in the sense that I think he's the greatest thing since sliced bread. What I am a fan of is consistency & sticking with the team that we have & stopping the merry-go-round to allow what we have in place to settle. If you look at the winning franchises in the League, you don't see the revolving door that exists here. The coaches, the QBs, most of the core guys are there year in & year out. The Colts, Patriots, Steelers, Eagles, Giants...all have remained with the coaches & QBs they have had for the last several years.

The Steelers had a coach that didn't win a Super Bowl until his 15th season with them. That never would have happened here. We, as a fanbase, but more importantly, the FO would not have tolerated such failure & would have ousted Cowher in 3 or 4 seasons. They also have a QB that had the worst QB rating for a winning QB in the Super Bowl. The very next offseason, he did a faceplant into some woman's windshield & the Steelers stuck by him anyway. We would have clammered to trade his dumb ass for doing something so stupid as to nearly kill himself trying to be a stuntman without a helmet.

My point is, I would like the merry-go-round to stop & allow someone the opportunity to develop into a great QB instead of believing, falsely, that we can trade for or draft one that will make an immediate impact that hasn't been seen here before. In the 30 years I can remember watching football, I have NEVER seen the Redskins draft a QB or pick one up in FA that made that kind of impact on the field right away...except Heath Shuler. And that wasn't the kind of impact we were looking for.

So, my answer is, no, Campbell will not be here next year, despite that I would like to see him here for another 5 seasons, if not longer.
