Quite a demotion for Shanahan, but maybe it's what he wants, to just be head coach. If that's what he is.

Adam Schefter is saying no way in hell Shanahan is going to KC, and that the two parties haven't even spoken. Mortensen on the other hand seems to think a deal is imminent. Huh.

I say Todd Haley. The Pioli, Parcells connection thing. Haley was with Parcells in Dallas, Pioli is Parcells Son In law, etc.

Tough choice on this one, both are good sources.

I am shocked! Shocked! We should fire Zorn and hire Herm Edwards.

So... Shanahan coaches for KC for a few years until Norv final wears out his welcome in SD. The Great Leader then quits KC and jumps to SD to complete his coaching sweep of the AFC East.

When it comes to Shanahan, almost always bet on Schefter

Right you are:

MORT BACKS OFF ON SHANAHAN-TO-CHIEFS

Posted by Mike Florio on January 23, 2009, 8:26 p.m.
After reporting that the Chiefs and former Broncos coach Mike Shanahan were close to a deal that would make Shanahan the successor to Herm Edwards and in the face of a strenuous and unequivocal report from Adam Schefter of NFL Network, who once co-authored a book with Shanahan co-authored a book with Shanahan, Mortensen has backed off.
Mortensen is now reporting that the Chiefs have targeted Shanahan as a potential replacement for Edwards.
To his credit, the current version of Mort’s story acknowledges Schefter’s report.
That said, the current version of Mort’s report doesn’t disclose that ESPN previously was reporting that Shanahan and the Chiefs were nearing an agreement.
So the duel has been resolved — and Schefter has driven his Prius less than five miles per hour into Mort's leg.

----------------

PS- Is it weird that I can't stand Florio, yet I cannot look away?

Re: Chiefs fire Herm Edwards

Shanahan didn't deserve to be fired. Herm shoulda never been hired as a HC in KC.

Last year was the first year in Edwards' brief tenure there that they started providing him with some players to build with, not guys past their prime or guys who were considerably overvalued (see Patrick Surtain, Michael Bennett, Kyle Turley, DeMorrio Williams, and others). They finally got some solid young players (Bowe, Flowers, Albert, Dorsey) now though.

I agree. Bowe looks like he's going to be a future star. But they need to bring in a QB to sure things up. I wonder if Piolo will try and bring in Cassell.

Re: Chiefs fire Herm Edwards

I've always liked Edwards and he seems like the type of coach that players will play hard for. It seems like he knows how to deal with people. I'd love to see him coach here. Maybe in the future.
