Re: Bryant Johnson Scheduled to Visit Redskins
By my count, just 2 great wideouts came out of that draft (Chad Johnson and Steve Smith). There were a fair number of WR busts in that draft too though (e.g., Freddie Mitchell).

Re: Bryant Johnson Scheduled to Visit Redskins
I remember watching a Cardinals Pre-Season game last season where B. Johnson looked like a gem, a true athlete. Given it was a pre-season game, but I thought to myself that this guy will be good one day. Talking to my friends who are huge 49er fans, they say that everytime Arizona plays them B. Johnson lights it up. He runs good routes, has good hands, and is a big presence in the redzone. I don't know if he will solve our problems, but his potential is still very high. He didn't have the best stats in Arizona, but look who was throwing him the ball, Lienart and Washed up Warner. Pair him up with a good QB and I think good things will happen. Definetly an upgrade over Caldwell in my opinion.

Anyway glad to here hes a weapon in the Red zone. If anything it always seems like we struggle getting touchdowns in the Red Zone. Hopefully Johnson can cause defenses to split coverage between Cooley and Johnson when the Skins' get inside the 20. Add a Guard that can start right away through the draft (say Brandon Albert?) and we'll be good to go.

Re: Bryant Johnson Scheduled to Visit Redskins
See, I think Santana Moss is a number 1. I think the Redskins just need a big possesion reciever, and from what I see, Johnson has a lot of upside.

Re: Bryant Johnson Scheduled to Visit Redskins
He has good hands, and is a decent possesion reciever. I love ARE however, given his speed and size IMO he is a true slot reciever. with Moss at #1, Johnson at #2, El at #3, and Caldwell and McCardell (if he doesnt retire) thrown in there on four and five wide sets, we could be good at reciever. Unfortunately, Hackett is unproven and ALWAYS injured, and we need a true #2 deep threat on the other side of Moss. thats what Lloyd was supposed to be, remember? with depth in the late rounds of the draft, we could potentially have the best WR corps in the league behind the Pats.

Re: Bryant Johnson Scheduled to Visit Redskins
Well lets see what Scout Inc have to say about Johnson.
2007 Scouting Report - Scouts Inc. Grade: 65 | Key Alert: None Comment: Johnson is well-built, physical and fast. He has quality tools and a good feel for the game. He can find voids in coverage when a play breaks down. He knows how to use his size and strength to create separation. He is a solid intermediate target. He has decent hands and can be an effective route runner. But Johnson's focus and consistency need to improve. He sometimes appeared frustrated with his role as Arizona's No. 3 receiver last season. His play seemed lackadaisical at times. He will peek at defenders around him in traffic and drop balls as a result. He muffs easy catches due to poor concentration. He makes many of the plays he should, but he doesn't offer much big-play ability. He doesn't play up to his timed speed. His effort as a route runner and downfield blocker could be better. He could be even more physical and a little tougher. 69-60: Average Starter A valuable roster player but is not dominant against the better players he faces on a week-to-week basis... Gives great effort and you are glad that he is on your team, but he may or may not go to the next level

Re: Bryant Johnson Scheduled to Visit Redskins
I am really not sold on Johnson at all. I just don't see him being any better than Reche Caldwell. I say draft a WR, it is a pretty deep class there for the first 3 rounds

Re: Bryant Johnson Scheduled to Visit Redskins
I don't want to come off too negative on Santana becasue I do like him. However, I do not consider him a #1 WR. There have been stretches where he has played like a #1...mostly in 2005, but there are also stretches where he completely dissapears from the offense. I think he lacks the consistency to be a true #1. JC needs a WR where when the game is on the line he can trust him enough to throw the ball up knowing that his guy will make the play. I think currently in that situation JC would want to throw it up for Cooley.

Randy Moss was practically useless in Oakland without a top rated passer giving him the ball. Anthony Gonzalez had a pretty good rookie campagin, but what do you think happens to him if he gets drafted by Atlanta, Carolina, or KC? David Patten got 792 yards last year. You think that Colston and Henderson develop into anything if they go to a team with mediocre QB play? There will always be Receivers that make plays no matter who the QB is. You can look at guys like Chad Johnson, Steve Smith, A. Boldin, and L. Fitgerald and know that they could put up a 1,000+ yards even if a fan that won a halftime ticket stub contest was throwing to them. Theres a good chance that all of the guys that we'll have a chance to acquire in the next two won't be that kind of player, however if we develop Jason Campbell and give him the protection he needs up front (B. Albert plug) then it won't matter if we sign Johnson or Hacket, the offense will still be able to produce.

Guess you didn't see Santana Moss, Reggie Wayne and Chris Chambers on that list.
