Re: Bryant Johnson Scheduled to Visit Redskins
I'm sorry folks, but I can't understand how anyone thinks that Reche Caldwell is a legit number 2. I think we often get blinded by our own players. I don't know anyone who has ever heard of Mike Espy if he isn't a member of this board. I'm excited to see what Mix can do too, but I don't think that we should stand pat at wide out. Caldwell is mediocre at best, Mix and Espy (last year's darling) have shown absolutely nothing.
I'm not advocating by Bryant Johnson, but the Skins need another receiver. There is no one on the roster who I would consider to be a legit number 1, Moss can't stay healthy and Randle El is at best a number 2, Caldwell has never had more than 760 receiving yards. His second highest total? 352! I don't know what about his 141 yards and no touchdowns suggests he should be number 2 ahead of Randle El, but I have no faith in a Moss (who might play his average 11 games), Caldwell, Randle El, and (insert former practice squad player here) receiving corps. This team needs another wide out. I'm not sure that I care where to get him, but they gotta get one. I, personally, would pursue Javon Walker if he's healthy and not too pricey. If he has an incentive laden contract, I would be all about because, when he's healthy and motivated, he's a great football player. |

Re: Bryant Johnson Scheduled to Visit Redskins
I thought Hackett was somewhat injury prone?
If that's the case then how would he compliment the personnel we have now? We've already got two wideouts that borderline commit suicide every time they go over the middle. I'd rather have a sure handed, physical number two that can free up ARE and SM to do what they do best, make the big play.

I'm sure he'll be a fine complement but I don't know that he's so much better than what we currently have, yet his contract would likely say otherwise. As for Walker, yeah when he's healthy and motivated he's great. Question is will he be healthy and can he stay motivated.

While I don't think Caldwell is a Pro Bowler by any means, I think he proved that he was sure handed and ran some great routes when given the chance. I'm saying a three to four year deal and see what the cap space we're left with gives us next year or the year after when we start to see some breathing room...

Re: Bryant Johnson Scheduled to Visit Redskins
Also, in case this thread gets too long, this isn't me saying that Caldwell is going to be our savior at WR. I think he would be a nice addition for depth and someone to make a few key catches.
For those that think we need a true number one, we simply don't have the cap to make it happen this year. But then again, I've been surprised before...

I'd rather draft a guy in round 1 or 2 and have him be the number 2 and let Caldwell be number 4. Problem is, I don't think Caldwell can play teams, so that's left to Mix. It's not an easy situation, but I don't believe not getting a receiver is an option. I could see them drafting Harris from MSU or Manningham and be relatively pleased. I would rather have Limas Sweed, but my feeling is they can't stand pat... |

Re: Bryant Johnson Scheduled to Visit Redskins
I'd bring him in.................for the veteran minimum!
Obviously if we can bring him in for the $2-$3 million dollar range then I think he would be worth a look. And considering that Michael Turner got $5 million a year to play starting tailback for the Falcons then $2-$3 million is definately a possibility IMO. Well in all fairness to Johnson, if you're going to be stuck behind two guys, might as well be stuck behind two of the best.

Re: Bryant Johnson Scheduled to Visit Redskins
I was just checking out the Wikipedia on Bryant Johnson and came up with this. It is saying that he has already signed with buffalo ??????
[edit] NFL Career Johnson has played three years predominantly as a slot receiver for the Cardinals, frequently starting the game from the third receiver position. His 35 catches in 2003 was the third most receptions for a rookie (his teammate Anquan Boldin had the most receptions for a rookie that year)[1]. Johnson's career has been hampered by several injuries, but has not appeared in less than 13 games in his three professional seasons. Johnson scored the inaugural touchdown at University of Phoenix Stadium, a 5-yard reception from Kurt Warner in the Arizona Cardinals preseason game on August 12, 2006. He signed with the Bills, likely becoming the AFC East team's #2 wide receiver behind Lee Evans. Terms of the contract were not made available by the team. He is represented by fellow Penn State alumnus Chafie Fields. Bryant Johnson - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |

Repeat. Please feel free to delete
Wiki is "reporting" he signed with the Bills today. I guess some Bill's fan really wants him. Bryant Johnson - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |
