Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
Have we forgotten about Caldwell already?
I'm not saying he's a superstar but he was pretty solid down the stretch and looked like a promising player for us as a #2/#3 type of WR. |

Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
Yeah, Caldwell really stepped up and helped us out when we needed it. They should make it a point to sign him back.
Still, he won't make the difference between an explosive offense and what we've had for the past two years. We still need a game-breaker along with Moss. |

At one time I was in favor of making a move for CJ but with his recent antics I'm off his bandwagon. You can never have enough play makers that's for sure. I think we need to try to address this in the draft though. |

Sure Caldwell had a couple decent catches, but McCardell really stepped up when we needed him. Sure he's old, but I'd like to see him back next year. Caldwell took a long time before he made an impact for us, and that was slight.

Both TO & Moss had hit bottom in a way & burned their bridges to the point that only a couple teams were interested in them despite their great ability. CJ still has a lot of bridges left to burn before he's to that point, I just hope he doesn't do so here. |

Chad Johnson would not be a problem here. Portis and moss are friends with chad johnson, he also happened to be friends with Sean Taylor. Portis and Moss would keep him in check, he just doesnt like anybody in cincy.

Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
are we seriously saying we don't need CJ cause we have caldwell, el, and mix? i mean, wow. okay. sorry, but that's pretty weak.
and not hiring him cause of his agent? guess who the #1 agent rep on our team is... that's right, it's drew. guess all those other guys need to get fired now. i can understand not liking his tantrums, but let's not mix the real reason you might not want him with piled up weak excuses. |

Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
So JLC is reporting that league observers believe it will take a 1st and 3rd round or two 2nd round picks to pry Chad Johnson away from Cincy. Assuming it does take that much to nab Chad Johnson and we pull the tigger, I am dead set against the trade. Trading 2 first day picks for a 30 year old receiver with character problems isn't wise IMO.

Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
It is a lot to give up for this year's draft picks but I give up next years in a heart beat. Think about Seattle traded for Deion Branch with a first round pick. Branch is no where as close as good as Chad Johnson. We need a number 1 receiver by any means necessary. Moss is on my bad side now for the way he gave up on that play in the Seattle game. I would not mind trading to Cincy along with a second round pick for Chad. I believe CJ, EL and Caldwel would be a pretty good trio in this version of our west coast offense. I really want El in the slot. Did anyone hear in the Zorn's press conference that he made a reference to El being a terrific inside receiver. We need to have size on the outside for the slants and screens along with the blocking in the run game.

Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
It all comes down to the draft picks we would give up -- I agree that Chad Johnson would be a great fit here .. but look at the top two teams in our division -- NY and DAL signed Plax and TO away without giving up any draft picks ....

Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
Please, please, stay away from this guy. First he would cost too much and seems to be declining talent wise, plus we don't need another Brandon Lloyd. DS and VC use your brains and draft a receiver instead of going for the quick fix.

I personally would love to have Ocho Cinco but I am afraid it would cost us too many draft picks.

As for Deion Branch, he was entering "his prime" when he was traded to Seattle whereas Chad Johnson will turn 30 next season. Chad likely has 2 or so years of dominant play followed by a few years of rapid decline. I'd like to have a great #1 WR, but not a 30 year old malcontent who wants booku bucks. But, as noted earlier, this story rises only slightly above rumor and with any luck that's all it will ever be. Ahhhhh the offseason. |
