Re: Top 2007 NFL Free Agents
Whoever we get, I think that most of us agree that the most important thing is to generate a consistant pass rush from our front four - if we do this the rest will fall into place.
We also need solid depth at CB, tho.

Re: Top 2007 NFL Free Agents
Hollis Thomas, UFA, New Orleans Saints
Nate Clements, UFA, Buffalo Bills Asante Samuel, UFA New England Patriots Ken Hamlin, UFA, Seattle Seahawks Michael Lewis, UFA, Philadelphia Eagles Derrick Dockery, UFA, Washington Redskins these are all guys we should consider. 2 corners from that list TOPS. maybe lewis but hes not the best in coverage, could be had for fairly cheap since he fell out with the eagles, dockery is a must re-sign for us. hollis thomas is a great run stopper that would really help our defense and probably would be fairly cheap considering his age. he should atleast be considered. i think Daniels will be ok for this year with some DT help. if we used branch (draft) and hollis thomas inside 1st and 2nd downs and use griffen in pass rushing plays our DE's would do a lot better, as well as our linebackers because they will be protected |

Re: Top 2007 NFL Free Agents
Seneca Wallace would be an excellent pickup, if cheap.

Re: Top 2007 NFL Free Agents
I wonder what kind of money Jared Allen or Justin Smith would demand.

Re: Top 2007 NFL Free Agents
i think jared allen is a RFA, and he will probably be tendered to require us to give up a 1st round pick to get him. not worth it IMO if that indeed happens. justin smith would be interesting to see, but id think he would demand a sizeable contract

Re: Top 2007 NFL Free Agents
Chris Simms is no longer on the market. QB pickins are pretty slim, but Plummer and Leftwich are available by trade.

Re: Top 2007 NFL Free Agents
signing two #1 CBs is a bad idea, since the skins overpay everyone anyways. clements or samuels wouldn't be bad though... but i think we really need to draft our DL this time around. allen will cost too much for the short term increase in performance over who we have.
crosby (the kicker) is going in the 2nd or early 3rd, where we don't have a pick, so you can forget about getting him. at punter, brandon fields might be available very late though (super super strong leg). besides depth, only a CB and LB really seem to make sense, since we're going to need cap room moving forward to toss our bad contracts with. |

Re: Top 2007 NFL Free Agents
What about going after DE Charles Grant of the Saints - I though he was a free agent this offseason? Does anyone know if the Saints are going to place the transition/franchise tag on Grant?

Re: Top 2007 NFL Free Agents
Speaking of LB, more and more people are talking about Patrick Willis and most seem to think he'll be available in the later first round. If we're going to trade down, that's where I want someone.

Re: Top 2007 NFL Free Agents
that's a great lineup, but we can't afford 4 top free agents with our cap situation.
