Re: What Happen to Your D

I don't think D'Boyz is trying to trash talk us. I think he's earnestly asking our opinion of the problems.

On the run defense, I noticed Williams lining the guys up in a straight 4-3 most downs. Williams' ultimate run defense formation is a 5-2, when he lines Daniels over one of the guards, Griffin over the center, Salave'a over the guard, and Carter right over the tackle. He then moves Washington up to the line, just outside the other tackle. The formation prevents the center from reaching the second level, forcing him to handle Griffin, and allowing each of the D-lineman to go man-on-man with the offensive line. The players all use their quickness to generate penetration, and since the center is occupied with Griffin, Lemar Marshall runs free to the ball-carrier. He never ran this formation once against the Jets. He just lined the guys up in terrible situations and they were letting up 4 and 5 yards on a consistent basis. Of those 140 yards you mentioned, 61 came on that reverse play which was simply the result of overpursuit. That part is the player's fault, but otherwise I think it was simple scheming.

If the Skins get gashed by Dillon/Maroney this week against the Patriots, then I'll be worried about the run defense.

As for the offense, the receivers are getting open and the line is protecting Brunell. But Brunell's timing isn't there yet. That comes with time. Some holes were getting opened pretty well for Sellers and Betts at times against the Jets, and they took advantage. But those are holes that Portis can turn into 12 yard gains instead of the 6 yard gains that Sellers and Betts were ripping off. The offense will take some time to get in sync fully.

AND did you notice that Saunders ran the EXACT same play like 3-4 times in a row?

Hey, it's preseason...there are no problems. I was trying to explain that to my wife that these are basically "practice games" to see who makes the team.

Nothing to worry about, except CP's shoulder.

I just couldn't resist, in light of the ongoing TO saga. It's hard to intentionally compose a message that way, though...

Schneed10 thxs for your opinion man yeah I wasn't trying to trash talk I wanted and honest direct opinion and I appreciate your really well rounded and based opinion.

I'm a little concerned because I really believe your team is a mayor contender but I haven't seen that yet, I expected some off timing on your offense as you said specially on Brunell I just don't see much on his tank left.

But I really expected your D to dominate specially in the run game I was just surprised your first team d to get run over but you cleared that up really good let's see this weekend how it goes.

Sorry for the delay on the response lost my connection the past days

There's a Parcells-TO joke here. I just know there is. Let me ask you a question. Seems like Marion Barber is getting a lot of carries in the red zone this preseason. Is that to keep JJ fresh? Are they going to platoon them? Or is the first step toward phasing Jones out of there? I think that's your big X factor this year, the running game.

Why JJ has more burst, elusivness and speed, Marion has more toughness and can get the tougher yards that's why they are starting to use him in goaline and short yard situation.

Marion has improve a lot since last year and it's really pushing JJ for playing time but JJ it's still the starter I believe that they will share the carries but if JJ starts getting games like Carolina ans Seattle last year the amount off carries in that game would change

JJ scares me more than Barber. He hits the hole hard and runs downhill. Hate to admit it, but he's a stud runner who has gotten better every year. I think our D Line can contain him due to the fact that your O Line isn't what it used to be.

There's nothing studly about Julius "Mangina" Jones. Let's see him prove something beyond this season and then we'll talk.
