All you can ask of a player in practice is to do their best, and if they do, that's good. You don't dismiss a players performance at practice just because it's practice.

Agreed. That goes for looking good or bad, like Matty alluded to. Certainly doesn’t mean that is who he is gonna be on the field, but it is no doubt an indication that they have a big learning curve ahead of them. That is when you hope he has a good work ethic, and that we have a solid staff.
Anyway, What else is there to do in the offseason other than measure performance in practice and practice is all we got. It is a pretty good estimation imo, unless you are a proven vet.
