Well, that's exactly what could happen here. If someone accepts the OC position and has success with Howell (or whoever), is able to turn this into a top 15 offense in the league, he will get another opportunity elsewhere, if not here, with the potential to be promoted just like any successful OC.

Exactly. Said this is another thread, but the quasi certainty of the HC being out next season might make the OC position even more attractive to someone confident he can have immediate success. Uncertainty ? Yes, for sure. But that can be said of a lot coordinator positions. And one other way to look at it could be "potential short cut to the HC job".
