Think they could have been more economical with their words, "Ron Rivera apparently had no clue" would have sufficed

Yes. Yes it would have. All kidding aside how in the absolute hell are you the HC and have no idea that losing todays game puts you in a position where you can be eliminated today? This guy is a joke.

Honestly I think he was confident they would win and that what anyone else does didn't matter. Think he was also confident they would beat the Giants twice. They should have won all three, but if Ron was overconfident the team feeds off of that and it reflected in the effort the last 4 games, minus 49ers

I think you are being too kind. Ron definitely had no idea that next weeks game might not matter. The question was in reference to who would play quarterback against Dallas if the game didn’t matter. After a long pause he asks “we can be eliminated “? WTF? This is after the L, so forget about winning and not caring about other teams. That ship sailed when your team shit the bed. At that point the reporters, fans, and the dude who collects scrap metal out of the local dumpsters in town all knew that next weeks game might be meaningless but the HC didn’t? Thats absolutely bat shit crazy.

Re: Ron Rivera

Another thing about Rivera, we never get a straight answer on injuries. He keeps injuries a secret, perfect examples are the Young dilemma, Holcomb foot, Schweitzer long concussion and others. What the fuck is up with that. That was never an issue with other coaching staffs.

He probably has no idea. Like I see him just drifting off in thought while he is being updated. Or while he is throwing a challenge flag. Or when he needs to use a timeout. Or when he is making personnel decisions. Or when someone asks him about us being eliminated. Or when he makes toast. Or…..

Let's be honest, this is standard practice in other leagues.

In the NHL injuries are classified often as "lower body, upper body, etc." without specifics unless it's something major.

The idea here is not giving your opponent a competitive advantage by giving them a perfect timeline of when they will be back.

I'm comfortable with him being vague on injuries, we need all the competitive advantage we can get at this point (which is hilarious to say about a team that was in the thick of the playoff hunt two weeks ago).

That is typically when you lose, underestimating your opponent.

His losing seasons certainly are. This oblivious response is just the cherry on top of a mountain of head scratching decisions both on the field as HC, and off the field as GM.
