Re: Lions postgame
- Go to Fedex today for the Andrews air show
- Get my 14k steps in and spend 8 hours roasting in the 90 degree heat - Absolutely exhausted - Make it back to Fedex somehow without hearing what the score is despite my Redskins hat - Walking back to car, strike up convo with Fedex parking lot staffer and cop, start talking football - First thing out of my mouth is "just don't tell me anything about the Skins game today, I recorded it" - Parking lot staffer immediately says "they played a tough one today, came up just short against the Lions" - Jaw drops like wtf did I just say? - Traffic sucks, almost 2 hours to get home - Get home turn game on anyways, wtf is wrong with picture? - Fucking Verizon Fios, I recorded the game on 5 instead of 505 - have to watch the Skins lose in low-def. - Fucking watch our yearly "this is the most embarrassing half of football I've ever seen" meltdown in low-def. - Fuckin JDR man. Jesus fuck. - Can't fucking win when you have to play an immaculate half of football just to come back from 3 score deficit. - Fucking paper tiger defense you wack motherfuckers.

Re: Lions postgame
Accurate.
Glad you guys enjoyed - SD I did have a good time at the show yesterday, me and the lil' bro been going to that show since we were kids. On topic - fucking christ JDR sucks. Like when you hear the quotes about the Lions watching film and ID'ing weaknesses like we can't identify formations - is that not on the staff? I've seen enough - it's year 3 and they're getting ass-blasted two weeks in a row. Ron your ship is gonna sink if you don't move on from the dead weight. It pains me how many quality d-coordinators were overlooked for JDR since Ron got here. There really is no excuse - especially putting Holcomb in the middle in what is obviously a last-gasp hail mary because they didn't fill the position in the offseason. You guys really think this d is gonna improve when Chase comes back? LOL.

Re: Lions postgame
First of all, I think the Jaguars and the Lions are much better teams than they were last year (and Washington may not be). Are we lucky to be 1-1 - probably. Could we be 2-0 - yep. That said, I'm not too mad about going 1-1 after playing the Jags at home and the Lions on the road. I still think this team can be at least 2-2 after four games, and that's where most thought they would be. I'm still giving the team/players/coaches until after week four before I decide what we really have going on this year.
So far, I think the offense is legit, but the defense is so frustrating. Collectively, they just are not getting it done consistently. Too many big plays, and the inability to stop the run is mind-boggling. Specific to the Detroit game though, I think it just boils down to who wanted it more after the clock started. I can't say it was the game plan, or really direct too much blame toward the coaches. The players got beat at every position group in the 1st half. To me, the Detroit players came to play from the jump, and the Commanders did not. I'll give them credit for making some adjustments and making it interesting in the 2nd half, but there's no excuse for what we saw in the 1st half. There's as much talent on this team as there is on Detroit's, but that doesn't matter if the effort is half-ass; or if you just expect to go in somewhere and get the W, but instead get slapped in the face. Ultimately yes, it's on the Coaches if the players aren't ready to go. But in reality the professional football players wearing burgundy and gold just didn't match the intensity of their opponent, dug themselves a hole, and were unable to recover. If it was a 90 minute game, they win 51-50...lol I hope this one leaves a really bad taste for all of them. |

I do think even JDR made a decent job at mixing up personnel and looks and making some adjustment. I do think it was a matter of intensity and will to win, and while I agree players have their personal responsibility in that, when it's the whole team it does point to bad coaching IMO. Ron isn't getting em fired up.

Re: Lions postgame
Agreed. But they do need a DC to come up with some workable defensive scheme. And I think we all seem to largely agree that we do not not have that.

Re: Lions postgame
I agree that they have an individual responsibility to play hard no matter how good a speech the coach gives, but even at a pro level, it's still a team sport, and we've seen many times how a locker room sticking together and believing in each other or not makes a huge difference. It's not all about x's and o's, to me having guys play hard and buying into what they're being told to do is a big part of a coach's job. No matter the $ every one is getting paid.
