Yeah that's crazy. Maybe it's actually because of and not in spite of.
Maybe they feel like as ex LBs they can coach up anybody and are a bit caught up in their ego like "nah we don't need to spend big $ at LB, let us find gems that nobody else saw and coach em up!". Just speculating.
