Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021
It’s all great till the 19th pick we don’t give up for Stafford fails to produce or not worth the pick ... not every kid coming out of college makes a impact in the nfl.. at least with Stafford we know what we are getting ..Let’s not pretend the pick will be a winner ...

i don't want any of our current QB's starting next year, bad QB play hinders everyone's development. I also agree with the folks that are saying we are not just a QB away from being a contender. I think if you make a play on stafford you got go out and get some more weapons specifically TE and WR.

This team is a QB away from being a contender in the NFC East, but not beyond that. Still a lot of holes to fill, and current rostered players to bring back. |

Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021
If 32 year old Matthew Stafford went into the draft THIS YEAR with the other 2021 rookies, would he last until pick 19 for us? And if he did, would you take him there?
I think he's worth the 1st. If it takes an additional 3rd i'm not very upset either considering we have 2. And in terms of his salary cap hit, his contract is more than manageable. In fact I'd almost call it a bargain in 2021. If he extends/resigns the way Smith did then it's a different story. But his current contract is extremely team friendly for a QB of his stature.

You win in the NFL long term by treating draft picks like gold and acquiring gobs of young talent with them. If anything, we should be trading down and acquiring MORE picks, not squandering them on guys near end of career. Stafford has taken a BEATING. He isn't playing until 40 like some other guys. So incredibly short sighted to trade for him. We should commit to finding a franchise QB in the draft, period, without a massive tradeup that mortgages the future ridiculously. |

And it will take more than #19. Our last (2) 3rd rounders have become solid starters. I'm guessing the deal will be a 1st, a 3rd, a 5th, something like that. A 1st, a higher pick, and a lower pick. So four years from now, do we have: (2) solid long term starters at say WR,CB,LB,FS, etc. who are 25 and have half a decade left in the tank minimum. And also perhaps a solid role player such as a 3rd down RB, rotational corner, backup OL, etc. Or a QB that retired. Such short term thinking. People never learn. Those first round picks are the backbone of our only elite unit, DL. The thinking should be to make other parts of the team elite with young players in similar fashion, not squandering draft capital on retread QBs. Imagine next four years we spend picks in 1st round on QB,LT,CB,WR. Now you are starting to talk about an elite team. |

Or imagine signing a top QB for a 1st and 3rd this year and not having to risk wasting multiple first round picks in search of the right qb. In addition imagine having a FO that, with QB in place and a repeat division contender in hand, not worrying about the owner trying to replace the coach due to fan base outrage. My hope is we brought in Mayhew, among other reasons, because of his ties to Stafford. Rivera might have already decided he wants to go after Stafford and brought in people he thinks can make that move work.

I'm sorry, I've seen Carr play here since his rookie season and he'll never be a winner. If you want an average under achieving QB get Carr.

You have to have the balls to "risk" finding the franchise QB. If your GM can't find one, find a new GM period. Snyder a huge problem, no arguing that. Rather risk a few picks and find a franchise QB, have him 5 years on rookie deal, and have position locked up for 10 years, than squander picks and need another QB in 3 years. If your goal is to win multiple SBs, it is abundantly clear how you do that is salary cap era: draft a franchise QB. Older retreads you trade valuable picks for are fools gold. Everyone who thinks otherwise is wrong. And by the way, when the Packers drafted Rodgers, they weren't sure he was answer, so they kept drafting QBs. Virtually every team late runs in playoffs has a long term QB they drafted and developed. This is not accidental. And again, if your GM can't find a QB, find a new GM. We are hosed with RR being defacto GM. We will be very good but never get to the mountaintop. RR will make the short term decision, as most coaches would, as it takes 1-3 years to develop a rookie. Not saying finding a QB in draft is easy, but a good GM can do it. Snyder will always meddle. Is the goal to win the division and get blown out 1st or 2nd round of playoffs every year, or win the SB? Going to have to beat Mahomes, Rodgers, etc., eventually, and need a true franchise QB to do that. Not a retread. People just don't get it. There actually isn't a balance to trading draft picks that are gold for QBs on the wrong side of 30 or close to it. You pay through the teeth. Then you don't have enough guys on rookie deals, overpay FA, last decade here in other words. |

Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021
With Aaron Rogers being unhappy in GB, I would inquire about him or Jordan Love, see what if they are willing to make a move. By the way, SF doesn’t like Jimmy G. Cause he’s not Montana or Young, their coaches and fans are caught up in that mentality.

I mentioned Love last year, I thought his tape was really good. I doubt they move him though. I also highly doubt ARod leaves.
