Problem is, trading up for a DE would be hard to imagine.. The Bears already regret dealing that 1 for Mack

It's a wild ride on this forum. like a few have said, good young qb with more starts than Haskins in 2019. Salary is low in comparison to what we would've carried to keep Keenum or Colt. Can help Haskins get up to speed with Turner. Gives some salary flexibility including the possibility of paying some of Trents 2020 salary if a team will give us a decent pick. I like it. would've liked it more if he was on a longer deal but I like it. There's a chance they've already discussed a new contract for 3-4 years even.

If a new, longer contract is agreed to that completely changes the dynamic of the trade. I hope this is the case. Would definitely make the trade more reasonable imo. He just signed his current contract this off season. Would be a short turnaround to sign a new one before this season.

This is a good watch if you want to know what kind of kid Kyle Allen is. Also some insight on his relationship with Scott Turner and Rivera

Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen

I like this trade. This is a position where depth was needed and we got a system player with experience. Granted, the Skins have made a few good 5th round selections in the last few years ( Ioannidis, Sprinkle, Settle and Holcomb - Piersbacher (?)). Of these players, only Ioannidis is the only proven, quality starter and he was a damn good pick. I will also remind you that in 2016 our number 1 was Doctson and our number 2 was Cravens. It doesn't matter how many picks a team has if they miss that badly at the top.

Before you get too outraged, go back through the last 5 years of drafts and see what we have done in the mid-late rounds. Getting a guy for a 5th round pick who may at some point start at QB (hopefully as a back up) is good value. It would not be surprising to see him sign an extension at a reasonable rate, given his relationships with Rivera and Turner.

Trading Dunbar for a 5th round pick may not be what fans think he is worth, but it is what the market will bear for a guy in his last year. Plus, he is a malcontent, so cya. In the end, we moved down 6 picks in the 5th round (from 148 to 154). It's essentially a straight up trade for us.

I would like to see some of the responses to trades made during the George Allen era when nearly all of the picks were traded for 30+ year old guys with beer guts.

Lastly, our team needs a new identity which I hope Rivera will bring. If players want to move on, let them go. I am glad to see Nicholson let go, as well (too many off field issues). The Joe Gibbs Super Bowl teams had guys with 'personality', but they were all good players who lined up as a team on Sundays. The underlying core of those teams were role players who fit specific needs. The rules were different then. Teams could stash players. But, the rules were the same for all teams. The Redskins, among some other great teams from that era, knew how to find players that fit their schemes and they had excellent depth even if the back ups were not household names.

True but, he is supposed to be a generational talent.

The Bears traded 2 first rounders for Mack. They fought they were one piece away from going to a Superbowl, gambled wrong and have slowly paid the price since. I don't see many teams doing the same thing after that.

Teams with a starting caliber quarterback will be more willing to trade up. Teams like the Bears with a back up quarterback like Trubisky probably shouldn’t seeing as nothing is going to help if you don’t have a good QB.
