Why Coach Gibbs gets no respect?
I am really dumbfounded on this subject, it may be that I am a "homer", but last night I was watching the NFL network and they had a NFL film on and Steve Sabol was comparing Vince Lombardi to Belichick. Saying things like how they are so similar and how Belichick is a master mind on the field like Lombardi was. Also like how Lombardi had only a handfull of plays that were ran to perfection and how Belichick puts players in the right situation.
Don't get me wrong what Belichick has done these past years is pretty amazing, with the salary cap and all. But what gets me is that Lombardi never had a losing season as a head coach, which is pretty impressive, where as if Belichick was a great mastermind then why did he have 5 losing seasons? I try to give credit where credit is due and like I said earlier what Belichick has accomplished is nothing short of amazing, but I have a hard time believing that he is a mastermind, I am sorry. Coach Gibbs has only 2 losing seasons to his name with last season being the second time in his career, along with 3 SB rings, of which he got with 3 different QB's, 3 different RB's. Belichick's Patriots are built now he does not have to see what this QB can do or what that RB can do so that he can plan accordingly, Bilichick knows what Brady can do, he knows what Dillion can do, he knows how good Deion Branch is, and he knows how good his D is. Again maybe I am just being a "homer", but as far as I am concerned Belichick has a long way to go before he gets mentioned in the same sentence with Lombardi and Gibbs...

Re: Why Coach Gibbs gets no respect?
Gibbs is already in the Hall of Fame. I wouldn't worry about him getting respect. Currently he's worrying about a win in PHILI at 415 EST Sunday. Gibbs is already in the HOF; he's now playing for the 'modern age' glories!!! Gibbs has already earned respect. His team was 5-6 a month ago. Now 9-6. Killed both Cowboys and Giants scoring 35 in both contests with dominating victories. You want Sally to Gibbs respect? Even if Gibbs wins the superbowl this season you'll find djs saying this and that just like people saying Bellicheck ain't all that. Coach B is all that. He's perhaps the best coach of modern times until Gibbs beats him in the superbowl! Now I know we're getting ahead of our selves here, but it's all depending on Sunday. It's KILL EAGLES WEEK for me!!! Let's get drunk!

Re: Why Coach Gibbs gets no respect?
Gibbs will be well respected if he takes the team to another Super Bowl trophy this year and repeats next year and the year after that.

Re: Why Coach Gibbs gets no respect?
I think Gibbs is man enough to only concentrate on what is really important and that is - coaching the Skins to a successful season, getting to the playoffs, his family, his faith and the loyal Skins fans. I doubt he gives a lot of thought to what the sports pundits think of him. He is a very humble man and, unfortunately, it's often the most colorful coaches who get all the media attention.
Gibbs? He just quietly goes about his job and, in the end, he prevails. Like the story of the tortoise and the hare. The hare started off ahead and with a bang, but it was the tortoise, with his persistence, who eventually won the race. So it is with nearly everything that Gibbs is involved in. He is the glue that has held this team together for the past 2 years. Thank God Danny Boy was smart enough to entice him back. It's the one of the few positive things Snyder has done with this team since he took over as owner. |

If Gibbs wins the SB again I move for a vote to induct him into the hall of fame once again...I like the sound of 2 time HOF'er!

Re: Why Coach Gibbs gets no respect?
About two days ago someone i think on cold pizza said there are like 10 coaches that could be coach of the year. He went over every playoff team's coach exept the skins. Every, i mean Cowher, i mean DELRIO!!, i mean belichick, i mean what the hell? Litteraly he named everyone that made the playoffs as a canidate but Gibbs. I am telling you that was intentional and i think gibbs is on a short list with 5 others. This team has sucked ass for years and he did thing with the personel and made us a good team single handedly.

Re: Why Coach Gibbs gets no respect?
Joe Gibbs gets no respect because Jack Kent Cooke and Daniel Synder allowed him to do things his way which was unorthodox to the NFL status quo. Gibbs was still isn't loud, prude or arrogant when speaking of his accomplishments. He's a clean guy which is dull news when you think of Parcells. For that reason anything he does is considered an aberation or just plain luck. Chris Carter, Terrell Owens, and the rest of those clowns need to read some history of great teams and the Redskins under Gibbs should be in the first chapter.
