In my opinion there is no way the vikings would even consider the possibility of cutting someone who is one year into a 5-6 year deal that included a 10.3 millioin dollar signing bonus.

That said...even if for some assanine reason he did get cut...my bet is the skins wouldnt even offer him anything close to the contract that he turned down last offseason. Now we have springs' contract, and rogers making early first round money. So we wouldnt be in a position to sign smoot to a big deal. We have other needs to fill in the offseason that rank ahead of corner.

If Smoot is cut (and I think it may be a possibility, with the new ownership), he won't get anywhere near the deal he got in Minnesota, for several reasons:
  • He was exposed this year as a good #2 CB, but not a #1.
  • His involvement in the Love Boat scandal makes him a questionable character.
  • He just got paid - and teams are reluctant to give a signing bonus to a guy who just "stole" one.
Whether it's fair to say Smoot got over on the Vikings, financially, he did. He isn't a factor in their defense right now, but he's being paid like one.

It goes to show you that sometimes, the money isn't worth the change. I betcha if Smoot had stayed in Washington and accepted what offer we had for him, he'd probably be having another outstanding year and we probably would have drafted a wide receiver instead - not that I am unhappy with Carlos Rogers mind you.

I realize money is a powerful motivator, but come on, Smoot is bound to have taken a look at things right now and seen that maybe sticking with Washington would have been the better route to have gone.

I'll agree with you that sometimes its not a good call to chase money to a bad team...but lets remember where the Skins and the Vikes were last offseason. The Skins had just finished another big time losing season and lots of pepole had the Vikes as a chic superbowl pick. So he probably thought he was selling out to a winner.

Either way HA HA HA, he shoulda stayed at home! And give me Carlos Rogers 10 times out of 10...that man can hit, something Smoot could never do.

The Skins thought of Smoot as a #2 and thats why they didn't give him a contract better than Springs. There were even rumors that they felt Harris when healthy was a better corner. I loved Smoot when he was here but they aren't going to bring back a guy they had had questions about before after he gets himself involved in situations that question his character. That's not Gibbs' style.

Well the original post was edited, which i understand.

The article was saying that Smooty has become really quiet. he isnt enjoying being himself this season. all the nagging injuries and legal problems have takent he fun out of the game.

The endorsement part was a picture of smoot with his new product, a double ended D!ld@. it was a pretty good gag.
