Eric Moulds

Eric Moulds seems to be on his way out in Buffalo. He's had seasons of 100 catches and 1300 yards. He even managed to make Peerless Price look like a good wideout. He's played through double teams pretty much his whole career in buffalo where he played under Greg Williams. Most importantly hes 6-2 and 210 pounds, the kinda size we lack. At 32 he still has some football left to play. Do we go after him at the end of the season? He would most certainly open things up for moss and with patten as a number 3 we could have an explosive offense. He just had his streak of 121 games with a catches broken. And he's frustrated in buffalo but he said "I don't really want to comment on it. I don't want it to be a situation like T.O." Which to me makes him a much better target than Owens.

Re: Eric Moulds

Moulds sounds great. If he does come, it could be the most talented trio of wideouts that we've had since Clark-Sanders-Monk.

Thats what i get for dreaming...

Eric Moulds is vastly superior to David Patten, so if Washington did happen to sign him, he would, more than likely, become the #2 receiver. And I can promise you, he won't just be sitting at home without any offers in the offseason, so he won't come very cheap.

Re: Eric Moulds

Good point Dmek, particularly if GW coached him, he is keenly aware of what is going on with him. If the Skins' have interest in him, it won't be a secret long. If not, GW has his reasons.

For what it's worth I don't remember him having issues in the past ever. He is 32 so he's been in the league. If he was a problem guy I think everyone would know by now. He is getting screwed over up there for making very measured comments that were basically correct. The gist of what he said was that they should have been RUNNING the ball more when they had the lead and throwing less since they have an inexperienced QB. Losman straight up lost the game for them on an interception and he shouldn't have been throwing in the first place. Moulds didn't come out all mouthy trying to start trouble. He simply stated the obvious. It is important to note he wasn't bitching about touches either. He was pointing out what they needed to do to win and not so incidentally it didn't involve him getting the ball. He was frustrated that he was benched for 3 quarters and I think he might have a point there since they don't have more than one guy who is as good or better than him. Mularkey says Moulds "took" himself out but that's not what Moulds says. Don't know why a guy would take himself out and then say the coach had benched him. Something is up there and I am going to give Moulds some benefit of the doubt since he hasn't shown himself to be a jerk in the past.
As to whether we should pursue him I would be cautious. His talent has diminished and he is aging so I'd only advoacte getting him on the cheap which I am guessing won't happen. If he can play for a couple seasons somewhere close to his top level he would be great for us. We still need to develop a young WR in the comign seasons though.

Coles never once complained in the media and I applaud him for that. What does where he is at matter?
I think a guy being a 9 year veteran with no history of personality problems simply deserves some benefit of the doubt. I am not going to immediately label him as a cancer or anything until the entire situation is played out and everyone knows what happened. I am willing to conjecture that maybe this is being mishandled by the coaching staff and management since other coaches haven't had problems with him. I absolutly could be wrong but I'd also be willing to give him a shot for the right price even if it turns out he jerked up on this one. One incident in 9 years is not a pattern. It is a warning though.

Re: Eric Moulds

maybe a 2 year 2 million dollar contract or something s mall, but this guy has his best years behind him. he is nothing more than an above average possession reciever now.

Re: Eric Moulds

He is a VERY good receiver with no quarterback. If we got him for less than 5 for 3 years it would be a steal. He is a team player and said nothing detrimental to the team, just stated the facts when asked about it. He is EXACTLY what the Redskins need, and Buffalo will be hating it next year when Evans is double teamed every play. Moss and Moulds would be sweeeeet.

Re: Eric Moulds

moulds is making like 7mill or something insane this year... last year moose was free and gibbs REALLY liked him, but refused to even make an offer cause he was too good to be cheap and too old to be worth a long contract. moulds is going to get offered #1 money and we just don't need to pay that much for a 32 year old WR on the downside of his career.

If he's cheap, sure, but my guess is he's just another FA we pass on. So far JG + crew have gone for young promising (but unproven or unsung) players (griffin, washington, clark) or betting on injury problems (springs, harris, fiore, barrow, vaughn). Though WRs with feet problems (coles, jacobs) don't really seem to be worth the risk.

He'd be a decent pick up but the price definitely has to be right.
