Patience Is The Right Word For The Skins For Now
Even if the skins cannot make the playoffs this year, it has been a good and productive season for Gibbs second year team.
our team made a good progress compared to the previous year Our owner Dan Snyder is I think starting to learn how to build a team and that is being frugal, smart and at this time BEING PATIENT Yes, we all know that it is still possible for us to get the final wild card but, if not it would be ok a lot of fans gave up of their team, but for me I think we will be the one of the future upcoming teams Mr. Synder, and gibbs teams will do it for us if not this season, the years to come look at the teams who is build long time who had success Patriots, chargers, indianopolis, broncos, and even the bengals compared to the impatient and quick fix team such as the cardinals, titans, this years eagles, and the ravens Im amg glad that our owner already realize that it takes a lot of patience and good working recruitment to develop a championship caliber team hope that this will encourage us and give us motivation to completely stick with the skins no matter what god bless the skins |

Yep.
Maybe next year. Actually, the Chargers were 4-12 in 2003 and 12-4 the following year. All with the coach that Danny couldn't get outta town fast enough. |

i agree, we need patience.
if we dont make the playoffs, we dont need to overhaul the team. make some small aquisitions like we did this year, hold on to the core players on the team, and we will be where we want to be soon enough

Re: Patience Is The Right Word For The Skins For Now
well if we take another approach and win the super bowl and I place a bet on a website that has the skins in at 150:1 odds to win it i might be a rich man
i will drop $25 if we win that is like $3750- it could happen |

Re: Patience Is The Right Word For The Skins For Now
You could be rich, it could happen. But it probably won't and like previously mentioned there is no reason to OVERHAUL. Just build on what we got. Danny is not the reason we're being frugal it's Gibbs. But Danny and future organizations will learn from this. I see it as putting the heart and blue collar back into football. The Patriots started it and now Gibbs is back to finish it. These games are won with teams, not TO, not Michael Jordan or Michael Vick. Sure the aforementioned sell tickets, but does Dillon or Brady bring in more than if the PATS hadn't won 3 Superbowls? HELL NO! Redskins are on the cusp of being a consistantly dominant team. If not this year, we'll be in the playoffs next. Guaranteed; SAVE THIS POST!!!

Re: Patience Is The Right Word For The Skins For Now
I think people are generally correct about us being better than last year...and us needing to continue being more frugal with our offseason spending...much like last year...so we can get into a healthier cap situation...
However the biggest key...which i haven't seen mentioned yet...is the fact that we need to build through the draft. We will never be a dominant team until we start building our team through the draft..and then plugging whatever wholes we have through certain choice free agents. But as long as we continue giving away picks like there nothing...ie...2nd for Cooley, 3rd for Mark Brunell, 2nd for Portis, 1st, 3rd and 4th for Campbell. All under Gibbs may i add...We will never have a team that is deep enough to be a consistent winner. That is the next step i am looking for us to take. Maybe Gibbs in the beginning saw things he needed to correct immediately and didnt want to wait for picks to mature into good players. But now that we have a core team...i am looking for them Keeping the 2007 draft intact. So we can finally start behaving like the successful teams have done...ie the patriots, steelers, eagles, chargers, bengals, broncos, and the list goes on...which is invariably BUILD THROUGH THE DRAFT.!!! |

I was born in the latter part of the glory days but didn't Coach Gibbs always use free agency and never really used draft picks?

We had a different type of free agency back then. I think it was called something like Plan B free agency. I don't remember all the details about it. He drafted Mark Rypien, Gary Clark, Ricky Sanders to name a few. I think Art Monk arrived in 1980, so even though Gibbs didn't draft him, we know how much Art Monk was used. So yeah, he used drafts picks and his coaching staff helped develop them quite well.

Right! And out of all those names, Darrell Green played (and I think started eventually) in his rookie season and played for 20 years.

Oh okay, thanks for clearing that up then. I had just heard that he relied more on free agency as opposed to drafting.
