Playoff Scenarios
Yes, I know many people are going to be like, "Win 5?! Ha! We can't even win one." This thread is about giving SOME hope to what's possible. I also need some assistance too.
![]() OK, ASSUMING we win the rest of our games that leaves us at 10-6, beating the Cowboys and Eagles both twice, and the Giants once. With the Giants and Cowboys playing, that means we will be tied with at least ONE of them. The Cowboys still have Kansas City and Carolina, both of which could equal a loss, assuming they were the ones to win the game against the Giants, thus giving us the tiebreaker against them. Assuming the GIANTS win that game and we beat them, we need them to lose one game which is also very possible against the Eagles and Chiefs who they play. I'm leaning closer to rooting for the Cowboys when they play the Giants, because we've already beaten them once. Also, assuming we win out, we will have only two losses in the division. If anyone can do the rest of this math, who would we have a better shot in a tiebreaker against for the division? Dallas or New York?

"Win 5. Ha! We can't even win one."
lol, highly unrealistic, but in the NFL, anything can happen. |

Re: Playoff Scenarios
Assuming we run the table we can win the division.
As much as it makes me sick we have to root for the Cowboys next week. That would take care of the Giants and Dallas has to play at Carolina, That makes two more losses for both and we would win all tie breakers. St Louis barely beat the Texans. Arizona is and will always be a joke. We can win these next two and come out on a roll and sweep our last 3 division games. The schedule makers were very kind to us. I believe. |

Re: Playoff Scenarios
MalcolmConnection, thanks for providing hope to us fans here. As bad as this loss felt, there still is the unlikely chance we run the table and get to the playoffs, not that I'm holding my breath.

Re: Playoff Scenarios
OK, so if we do win out and the winner of the Giants/Dallas game loses one more, we have all tiebreakers?

Re: Playoff Scenarios
Not a chance. This team peaked in weeks 1-3. The Cowboys and Giants both took two of the best teams in the league to overtime. Despite both of their losses, they are truly contenders.
Our mid-season slide will be the reason we'll be on the outside looking in yet again this season. Carolina, Atlanta, Tampa Bay, Chicago, and now even Minnesota are either firmly in control or are turning the corner, while we are taking a turn for the worse. |

Re: Playoff Scenarios
No, no, that was not my question. My question was, will we have the tiebreakers against both Dallas and NY if it came down to that for the division?

Re: Playoff Scenarios
ok, this is a hypothetical, assuming the Skins, Dallas, and Gyants win out (with the exception of the Dallas-Gyants game).

EDIT: The following is wrong - skip to my next post. If Dallas beats the Gyants and Skins win out, then, because Gyants are tied with us, down 0-2 against Dallas and we are up 2-0 against Dallas, I think it goes to tiebreaker #2. Skins are 5-1 and Gyants/Dallas are both 4-2 in the division. We win. If the Gyants beat Dallas, then the Gyants and Skins are 2-0 against Dallas and Dallas is eliminated and we go head to head against the Gyants. We would both have 1 division loss, so then it goes to record in common games. I have no clue how that would turn out. Last edited by onlydarksets; 11-28-2005 at 10:05 AM. |

Re: Playoff Scenarios
Oops - I had that backward - Dallas beat the Gyants in their first matchup.
If Dallas beats the Gyants in their second matchup, the Skins are up on Dallas (2-0), Dallas is up on the Gyants (2-0), and the Gyants are tied with the Skins (1-1). If the Gyants beat Dallas in their second matchup, we are up on Dallas (2-0) and everyone else is tied. So, regardless of who wins the second Gyants/Dallas game, it goes to the second tiebreaker - division record. Under the second tiebreaker, the Skins will be the only team at 5-1 in the division (since we will have to beat both Dallas and the Gyants once to get there). Therefore, I think we actually do hold our destiny in our own hands if we go to a tiebreaker. If we win out, we win the division. Edit: The winner of the Dallas/Gyants game must lose another game for us to go to a tiebreaker. Does this sound right? Last edited by onlydarksets; 11-28-2005 at 10:07 AM. |

Re: Playoff Scenarios
Of course, the winner of the second Dallas/Gyants game must lose at least one other game besides the one to us to drop into a 3-way tie at the end of the season. The loser of the second Dallas/Gyants game will drop down to at least 6 losses since they will also lose to us.
I was told there would be no math in this forum. |

Re: Playoff Scenarios
Hahaha, hence the reason I asked for help! OK, that's good info. Time to go on a roll and personally I hope the Cowboys win because I feel it's easier for Carolina to beat them down the stretch.

sorry man but if the giants beat dallas they are 1-1 we won the first metting so looking at your scenario if dallas wins and loses to washington and carolina their record would be 10-6 but with 2 loses vs washington and a 4-2 div record. and the giants would also be 10-6 but with a 3-3 div record and washington would be 5-1 in the division given them a tiebreaker with both teams Washington wins the division. Now if the giants win and they lose to KC (the only real posibility) they would be 4-2 on the division dallas would be 3 -3 and Washington would be 5-1, washington would take the tiebreaker again. this is looking at your best scenario. |

Re: Playoff Scenarios
Excellent. That's what I was hoping all that meant.
Here's hoping for a miracle.
