Blinded by the Successful Light

When this year started everythign looked as if it would fall into place. The offense could finally produce and the defense that was #3 last year and just scared offenses was clicking as it should. As our record inflated with win after win so did the egos of everyone at Redskins Park. They finally were getting some recognition aroound the league as a "contender" and the offense was picking apart defenses like the colts against basically any defense. This all has been exposed following that blowout win over the 49ers. It has been downhill since then with the exception of Philly last week. Coming into this week everyone knows there are a lot of contenders in the NFC and the Redskins need to win their games against NFC opponents to get their spot. Everyone said Gregg williams will pressure Simms and force turnover and sacks. Well that has been said a lot recently but I havent seen it. The Redskins pass rush is non-existant allowing a below average quarterback like chris simms to put up numbers like a experienced vet. In the one or two plays he had pressure he made bad decisions and had bad passes. So why did that only happen like twice?? The defense has been getting straight up burned week after week.
The offense has put points on the board but sparingly and on different runs and commits too many turnovers. This offense was #2 after week 3. No doubt they can make plays but when you have a turnover differencial of -13 you can't march down the field to score. Also David Patten was brought in to make plays and has does the exact opposite. He was complaining about not getting throw too and now it will be even less after dropping passes.
Im not giving up on the season but there need to be some major changes. Gregg Williams needs to show why he is considered a defensive mastermind and the offense needs to hold on to the rock.

What do you think???

Hail to the Redskins!

There isn't anything wrong with Gregg Williams' approach to the game, and I don't believe he has to do anything differently with how he approaches his defensive game plans. What he needs to do is to realize that we lack a true pass rushing defensive line, and that our secondary needs talented depth.

Please, Greg Williams does not need to prove anything more. Stacking the box and making a 3rd year rookie beat you with his arm seemed to be a perfectly logical gamble to take. The gamble failed, but that was because Simms wasn't as bad as the last couple of weeks showed.

G. Williams will interview in the offseason for a head coaching job somewhere, and get one. Greg Blache will remain and be our Defensive Coordinator. Blache was responsible for the stellar line-play last year. The D will be fine next year with the addition of another strong lineman/pass-rusher.

I think Greg Williams stays another year.

How many times did they have a short field?

Yeah, I'm not sure what the call for Williams's head is, like I said above, the field was short a number of times and it shows how sorely we missed Sean Taylor.

It's mainly the offense holding onto the ball. I think this game we just missed Sean Taylor. Normally you don't see teams taking that many shots downfield. And just as Alstott didn't get in, Galloway wasn't "forced" out setting up that first TD. Run defense is looking MUCH better and I believe that Taylor will play next week and help out immensely versus a pretty decent Oakland offense.

Yeah, that first call was total crap. The ref was looking at the guys feet, not at his body. If he was unsure (how could he have been sure?), then he should have called it incomplete and sent it to replay where they *can* review if he was pushed out. Total BS.

Re: Blinded by the Successful Light

We missed Taylor and Griffin. Griff would have helped an awful lot on all those short yardage runs by Allstott.

And the reason that Williams feels so comfortable blitzing so often is because he usually has Sean Taylor back there. We got burned deep on blitz after blitz because Prioleau doesn't have the range to cover the field like Taylor does.

I do agree that we need a pass rushing DE though. If we could generate pressure with our front 4 our D would be unstoppable.
