Clarett & Williams out of the Draft (for now)

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfldraft/d...ory?id=1785560

NEW YORK -- A stay was granted Monday by a federal appeals court until it rules on the NFL's appeal of an earlier decision that allowed Maurice Clarett and eventually Mike Williams to be part of the draft, ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports.

A stay in the proceedings technically will keep Clarett and Williams out of the draft Saturday at least temporarily, but a ruling could come down in their favor beforehand, which would make both eligible to be selected. If Clarett and Williams are declared eligible for the draft after it takes place, the NFL already has said the two would be part of a supplemental draft.

The draft is still really deep at receiver. It shouldnt affet thigns to much. It lessons our chance of trading down to get a dline because not the Falcons and Jags will look DLine if hes not there. I still beleive WIlfork will be the surprise pick and move up the most. Either way the Skins should just pick at five.

Dispite the fact that it wont really effect us, or people looking for a reciver in the draft, I think this is a travisty to Mike Williams. If he cant be in the draft and cant go back to school, its ludacris. He only enterted the draft after they said he was eligable, so if he cant get in, he gets screwed over bigtime.

For now, Clarett and Williams barred

This may affect us, if one of the top four changes their minds now. WR's are more scarce, so a team that may have decided to wait will now pull the trigger.

Any word on what Clarett's lawyers are planning to do now?

How about Williams' representatives? Any indication they might sue the NCAA for reinstatement?

This could get really really ugly guys. Because Clarett, Mike Williams, and I believe Fitzgerald also all really need this to go through, otherwise they are screwed. We might see the NFL draft knocked back, who knows. Maybe they'll ditch the draft and we can sign free agents instead... wait.. I like that way better!

Fitz should not be affected by the ruling. He was ruled elgible by the NFL standards before the first Clarett ruling.

At worst they would be in a supplemental draft, they wont get screwed out of getting into the NFL. The draft isnt going to get pushed back, I promise that. Im sure they will work it out before Saturday. That seems so much easier then having an extra draft.

SkinsnCanes:

Supplemental drafts are held about 50% of the time so holding a "second draft" is not mysterious for the NFL or for the GMs in the league.

You probably heard of Cris Carter. He was drafted by Philly in a supplemental draft so it is not just marginal players who get involved in those kinds of things.

The question is whether Clarett's lawyers or Williams' lawyers can get a court to order an injunction to bar the draft from happening on Saturday/Sunday. If so, we are in uncharted territory for the NFL; if not, then this case will make its way through the legal system in an orderly fashion.

I meant it will be easier for all the GMs if they just go in this draft. There are so many scenerios to work through as it is. And now with them not being in it it messes up all the boards. Well not so much Clarret, but M.Williams will.

from what's been reported on various stations, the appeal being upheld was innevitable and a lot of the people talking about it made it seem like it shouldn't have even gotten to a point of needing an appeal because the collective bargaining agreement between the nfl and the players association is exempt from the anti-trust laws.

it'll also probably a week or several before their final opinion is issued.

I must say, I am so excited that this is happening. I was very worried about how letting these young guys into the league and end up being the NBA.

I hope these kids get shipped back to college, or Mo Clarrett goes north to Canada, and stinks!

IF this does go to the supplimental draft, Williams will go in the first, I believe almost every team, even us, will draft him in a heart beat. Sadly, I wish they wouldn't draft him, but if they do, I could see them shipping Gardner off for a draft pick in next years draft, and even things out.

What do you guys think?
