Antonio Pierce re-signs with the Redskins

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...2004Apr16.html

According to the WP story, Antonio Pierce re-signed with the Redskins. We beat the Vikes to the punch.
Also... the Redskins are still working on signing Barrow.

Funny because the WT is reporting the Skins missed the deadline to re-sign Pierce.

Quote:
Meanwhile, Redskins linebacker Antonio Pierce could not agree to an offer sheet with the Minnesota Vikings before last night's midnight deadline. Pierce and safety Ifeanyi Ohalete, Washington's remaining unsigned restricted free agents, no longer are able to negotiate with other clubs.

Gotta love the Times, on top of things as usual.

I'm not sure if the Vikes signed him to an offer sheet... offer sheets had to be filed before midnight last night. If they had we would have had a week to match. Because Antonio was undrafted we would have received no compensation if we lost him.

I for one am glad we kept both him and Ohalate. I think they can both be big contributers to our team!

Iffy came on strong at the end of the year. I definitly agree with keeping him, for a year atleast. Taylor could be gone at 5, then we would fill a different need and if we didnt have Iffy we would have a huge hole at safety. At minimum we have a solid backup in him.

I bet Portis was licking his chops about getting number 26 though. Im surprised Iffy still had rights to the number as a restricted free agent. I wonder why that wasnt brought up in all those number debates.

Well, the Times and the Post story differ in that the Times is saying he didnt sign with Minnesota and the Post is saying that the Skins pre-empted Minnesota's offer sheet. But, isn't the net effect the same either way? He stays a Skin?

The Redskin lost holdman to cleveland that may be the reason they worked so hard to get pierce

Could be, Pierce may have been the odd man out if they signed him. Of course they are still going after Barrow, so its not like they still dotn have plans of getting another linebacker.

Lack of interest in teh aging barrow (34 soon) may help us get a good deal to fill a vet in for the time being.
