the defense.....
Is anyonelse concerned???? There are two areas worrry ME....
1) Sacks 2) Turnovers We are ranked 31 in turnovers taken. This does not bode well for the future of the team. Our offense has given up the ball 7 times which is tied for 12th in the NFL. That is middle of the pack, but our "taken" number is at the bottom! All teams "give" turnovers, but at the same time you have to "take" your fair share...we are not. Is this a system thing (we didn't take to many away last year either) or is it a personnel thing? I can't find the stat for sacks for the team, but I am sure we are in the bottom third of the league. Though we are in the top five in TOTAL defense, which I totally contirbute to GW's awsome tackling team, I don't see game changing situations like sacks or turnovers. I am concerned.

Re: the defense.....
yeah i've been a bit concerned. I've been talking about run stuffing to the outside for a couple of weeks now, but I think it'll get worked out.

Re: the defense.....
i am very concerned, it is a little crazy, our offense is playing well but if we don't get sacks or turnovers on defense and don't punch in the ball when in the redzone on offenes this team is in trouble. If we can do those 3 things we have a deep playoff team, BIG IF
GW says turnovers come in bunches, hopefully that starts this week |

Re: the defense.....
Concerned? Yes and no. I'd love it if the defense spent less time on the field. Turnovers do that well. They also help in the field positions battle.
However, the "lackluster" play so far has resulted in a 3-1 record. That projects to 12-4, which would make us the worst team in history (at least since the 2001 Bears) to do that well.

Re: the defense.....
the only thing is our offense is number 8 in the league, our defense is number 5, we can move that damn ball like non other and our defense holds people by there balls and swings them. It makes no sense why we aren't CONTROLLING field position like crazy as we give up very few yards and make so many on offense. After moving the ball the next step is controlling turnovers, just imagine if our defense could pull 2-3 turnovers a game, i am standing here and proclaiming nfc championship game. If we got 3 takeaways in denver we would have won hands down.
Brunell has thrown what...2 picks 6 TDs!!! that is f'n amazing, our offense has done EVERYTHING WELL but punch it in at the goal line which is a huge problem, but if they don't get turnovers and our defense starts too we will start winning every game. Our offense is ranked in the 12 in least turnovers, coupled with the number 8 offensive production and a beastly defense there should be nothing that can stop us. But the defense that is ranked 31 in takeaways needs to step it up. Just a testiment to how good our team really is.... we have been on the bad side of the turnovers the past 4 games and have won 3 of them. if you lose the turnover battle the chances of winning are diminished greatly but our team can still win, think, just imagine, just fatham what kind of team we would be if we got them darn turnovers |

Re: the defense.....
I believe it is a system thing as well as slump.....We do lead the league in throw aways. No 1 will dare Taylor this yr, other then dallas's trickery Flee-Flicker he's been a blanket. Maybe he should use the Darrel Green technique and let the rec "look" open

Re: the defense.....
We really don't force teams to play catchup, and we don't pressure the QB, 2 major key's for forcing TO's, I am sure we will get a TO here or there, but if we are going to really start becoming a ball hawking team the latter 2 have to happen.

Re: the defense.....
As long as we play sound defense, the turnovers will come. Turnovers are a streaky thing, they sometimes involve luck and the shitty play of the other team. I am not concerned.
Just win baby! |
