It's always easier to be pessimistic and be proven wrong than to be optimistic and proven wrong.

Re: Curmudgeon's Crystal Ball

Somebody tell me why this would be a "put up or shut up year for Ramsey" Anyone ever see Aikman's first three years? How about Favre?

Check out Delhommes first three years, and Plummers, and Brees and Hasselback. What 2 things do the last few mentioned QB's all have in common??? They were all in the top 10 in TD passes last year and Patrick Ramsey, in his first three years, has hands down better numbers then what they put up in their first years.

The first three years for ...

Aikman 31 TD-46 INT
Favre 38 TD - 39 INT
Delhommes 3 TD - 5 INT
Plummer 41 TD -59 INT
Brees 29 TD -31 INT
Ramsey 33 TD - 28 INT

So what am I getting at? this is only PR's second year under a NFL head coach, (that waste of space with the visor DOES NOT COUNT) so I would say this year is FAR FROM A MAKE OR BREAK YEAR. And this, from a person who really does not care much for the kid!

Re: Curmudgeon's Crystal Ball

gortiz:

Since you asked, let me tell you why this year is "put up or shut up" for Patrick Ramsey.

I am 100% convinced that Joe Gibbs has not wanted Patrick Ramsey to be his QB from the first time he reviewed the game tapes from the Steve Spurrier Era. I'm sure that Joe Gibbs would be thrilled beyond belief if Ramsey was able to "step up" and "make big plays" and lead the Skins to the playoffs. I don't think Gibbs is speaking with forked tongue when he says that Ramsey is his QB and the one they want to lead the team to victory. But if he tanks it again this year ... I think he's finished in this town.

The first personnel move Gibbs made was to fly around the country to woo Mark Brunell to come to the Skins. Remember the dinner where Brunell had to take Gibbs to the hospital? Remember Danny Boy sending Darrell Green to talk to Brunell because if Danny Boy had done it he would have faced tampering charges?

Brunell had that job for 8 games when it was clear to everyone not living in Mongolia that he couldn't play - maybe due to injury or maybe he's just finished. But it wasn't until Brunell became embarassing last year that Gibbs went to Ramsey.

Then faced with the possiblity that Brunell was never going to be anything more than a shadow of what he used to be, the Skins went and spent next year's first round pick plus another pick to move up in the draft to get - - a QB.

That's why - statistics aside - Ramsey has to get it done this year or he will be picking and choosing where he wants to "resurrect his carrer".

You may choose to live in a fantasy world where this is Ramsey's second year if that suits your needs; but sadly, he is in the 4th year of his contract - - which means that the time at which he will become "financially burdensome" to the team if they keep him is racing toward the Skins very quickly. If he has another year with a QB rating of 75 or less, I think he's outta here - unless the Skins win the NFC East in spite of him. Winning cures EVERYTHING.

Re: Curmudgeon's Crystal Ball

For once I'm with SC on Ramsey.

It most definitely is his put up or shut up year. He needs to prove whether he's a QB that can lead this team to the playoffs, or at least to a winning record.

Regardless of what happens this year with Ramsey, I think Campbell will be ready to push for the starting job next year. Ramsey's clock is ticking in Washington, let's not kid ourselves.

Boy.....l......... if anyone knows anything about coaching it is not Terry Bradshaw. No offense to him, he may be a nice guy, but no one in their right mind would ever hire him as a coach. This is in response to his article on the Redskins Quarterback situation. If Gibbs ever listened to him, he would never be in the position that his is today in my opinion. He is a color commentator with lots of color, funny at times but more BS than you can shake a stick at.

Re: Curmudgeon's Crystal Ball

yes it is ramsey year to prove himself. Honestly does anyone think that if ramsey wins 6 games, one of which was yesterday and brunnel held the team up(no fault to ramsey ofcourse), that he will be here starting next year? That is exactly why i think we got campbell, if ramsey sucks we can cut ramsey and still have a starter or backup in campbell.. It is ramsey's last year if he doesn't put up, i have said before to those who wanted to take ramsey out a couple weeks ago that once he is gone he is gone, no more ramsey, no more hopes, no more waiting, just no more. I want ramsey to do good but really if i knew that we would win more games with brunnel i would go to brunnel. I don't think that, i think ramsey can hit the deep bombs as seen by his 19+ yards per completion. That is what we need, to open some stuff up for those 40 rushes that we ran yesterday.

Re: Curmudgeon's Crystal Ball

I believe this is a make or break year for Ramsey. But he has played all of 1 quarter. He also, started looking alot more comfortable as the game went on. Give the guy a little more time...He has only played 1 quarter. Pennington had 6 fumbles in one game. Lots of other qb's struggle. Lets see how he continures to play before we throw Ramsey under the bus. As for Bradshaws comments. Come on. Did he watch preseason? Campbell is not ready to be a starter. With all respect to JC, he needs some more time before he can go out and win games. This is just a guy that hasn't watched the skins play who is making a stupid comment w/out any thing behind it. We actually moved the ball pretty well yesterday but poorly executed in the red zone.
I truly believe had Ramsey finished the game yesterday, we would have scored more than 9 pts in the game.

There goes my prediction of 9-7, we're now down to 7-9 or 6-10.
