LaVar buying into the system?
Did anyone else notice this? I was watching the games that LaVar has played in so far and have noticed that he's doing what he is "supposed" to in the schemes? He's not really overpursuing and just in the right position. I'd love to think that he knows he can still be a star and be a team player at the same time.

Re: LaVar buying into the system?
I think he'll play nicely within GW schemes. But I do expect him to overpursue and be overly aggressive at times, that's just part of what makes him such a special linebacker - he's a playmaker. To me, he'll never be a "pure system" player. He did have a good stuff on Jamaal on a third and 1.
I would like to see him in the starting lineup by the Dallas game. But I think he'll adapt well for the most part. |

Re: LaVar buying into the system?
I agree that he will always overpursue at times but hopefully being in the same system for two years will help him. Also maybe sitting out those games last year and then watching the D still rank 3rd might have shown him it is about schemes and following your assignments, NOT about making Sportscenter.

Re: LaVar buying into the system?
I'm sure GW has a scheme designed where LaVar is able to "free-lance". I see him as our Lawrence Taylor. I don't think he's in LT's league, but LaVar can be just as disruptive as LT was.

Also, it seemed like he was perfectly happy playing DE. I think he just likes to wreak havoc.

Re: LaVar buying into the system?
LaVar needs to learn some moves as DE. I've only seen him "bull-rush" the O-linemen. If he's able to learn some other DE tricks, he can be just as good as Jason Taylor, Simeon Rice, and Dwight Freeney.

Re: LaVar buying into the system?
Every year we have had a good D coord he has done great. This staff will make schemes that match his strengths...and that is a good thing.
The other thing I like is that he has depth behind him and he knows he is replaceable, if that dont motivate him dunno what will. |

I think LaVar by and large feeds off the fans and the attention and his love for the game. He enjoys the limelight but he also get's a thrill out of crushing the opponent! This year, I would have to say that's his motivation - just being on the field and wreaking havoc. |

Re: LaVar buying into the system?
What I have seen in Lavar this year is the return of excitement! This guy really gets the fans going and the house rocking!
He looks better to me as a linebacker than a DE, but I'm sure Williams has packages for him in both situations. I remember reading where Williams was really excited to have both Lavar and Washington on the field at the same time. Then you hear Springs talk about how good they are doing, but they don't even have thier best packages in yet. I bet some include blitzing Arrington. The D is going to be strong!

Re: LaVar buying into the system?
It's a mistake trying to make LaVar a defensive end.

Re: LaVar buying into the system?
If that is so, I can see Williams realizing that and nipping that in the bud.

So, no one thinks he'll start against the Bears?

Re: LaVar buying into the system?
If he plays in Williams's defense, he's a starter. They're all starters.
I DO think that everyone in the stadium, myself included, would spring a rubbery one if he DOES step onto the field in the first defensive series, but I don't care as long as he gets his reps.
