Questions, questions...

I didn't get a chance to watch the game, so I wanted to ask a few questions to those of you who did (and especially those of you who taped it and watched it twice--c'mon! you know you're out there ).

1. So I gather Ramsey did not impress, but did he stare down receivers? Did he force bad throws? Or was it more about inaccuracy and jumpiness?

2. Did the O-line run any "stretch" plays? (Not so sure I would recognize that right off the bat, but maybe some of you did.) How did Ladell look? How about the run-blocking in general?

3. Did Williams bring his regular blitz package, or was this kinda like the Rams game last pre-season? My guess is we we're looking at som CB evaluation film last night. Also, how was the run defense?

4. How did specials look? Was kick-coverage better? How were returns? WHo won the punt/kick competitions?

5. How did Bowen look? HOw did the TEs look? Where was Cooley?

Thanks!!!

He stared down the receivers, but sold a few plays pretty well. Also recognized every blitz and checked down to the correct receiver. Still , he missed every long throw.

They did run the strech at least twice where it was obvious (first team). It looked like Portis will love it. Ladell looked great, caught a real nice catch across the middle. Run blocking was not as big part of the game. Gibbs worked hard at the passing.

He ran his blitzes, but the guys really didn't seem to attack all that hard. Taylor/Bowen didn't play till late in the 2nd Q. Jimoh beat regularly.

Nothing special about special teams. Chandler missed a 40+ yard FG.

Cooley was used sparingly. He caught a pass in the flat for 16 yards and was out of there.

Note: Nemo may be the gem of this years draft. Looks like a real powerful 3rd and 1 guy. Never stopped for a lose or no gain, he always got something. (Including our only TD)

We did block a FG. Sean Taylor recovered it and a circus act ensued.

Inaccuracy was my feeling. Seemed to want to take the 1st option. But he had some miserable throws. But went 8 for 12 which really is not that bad.

Run blocking was great. Got called for a few penalties though. 2nd team looked good also. There seemed to be som big holes.

2nd team got abused. They did throw all the blitzes except maybe a saftey blitz. Double corner blitz and single corner blitz stand out the most.

I thought coverage was excellent, especially Pierlce Paulson (I think that is who that is, #20) Punt returner was Antonio Brown as was kickoffs with Ladell

Cooley HAd a catch or two and looked the same. Bowen played exclusivley with 2nd team and Taylor. I thought he played well and had a great Special Teams tackle. He did blitz when the Panthers were on the 2 yard line and crushed the QB.

Re: Questions, questions...

Yeah that FG block play lasted like 30 seconds, and we wouldve lost the ball on a fumble had we not been called with an illegal foreward pass. I thought Taylor was gonna break it but he ran lenghtwise accross the field and halfway back before trying to cut it up and pitching it to the ground where bowen scooped it up and hit the sideline for a decent gain before trying to pitch it back and fumbling.

Cooley wans't used much but cartwright and betts looked comfortable catching the ball. Ramsey did miss his longer throws but finished 8 for 12 with an int. (if he'd put a little more on the ball he had moss for a TD) I think he'll pull through and we'll have a much improved offense this year.

Re: Questions, questions...

Oh and the blitzes we ran were weak. Last year we had safeties and corners coming out of the woodwork. Last night I think we were trying not to get hurt.

Which is good. If we're gonna get hurt, mine as well do it when it counts. I'm really not worried at all about the defense, even if they gave up that TD drive. If you remember last year, they looked pretty crappy in the preseason (St.Louis game especially), altho they looked good vs Atlanta last year. I still worry about the offense, but I'm sure week 1, Williams will come out with a crazy scheme.

Nemo looks like a bowling ball, he's going to be great in short yardage

Re: Questions, questions...

I'm feeling really good about our short yardages and goal line plays this year...I think Nemo is just what the doctor ordered.

He was my pick in one of the threads to be the surprise player of the draft for us, it's nice to hear he's off to a good start.

Re: Questions, questions...

So, to accentuate the positives, we've got to feel pretty good about the O-line and the RBs--that's a big deal. And if the O-line play really shapes up, my Guess is Ramsey will hit his stride. Not worrying about getting your head knocked off helps one to relax.

I'm going to remain calm about the QB situation at present.

As for the D, the lack of starters and the watered-down packages probably accounted for a lot of the weak play--especially at corner (No offense to those in the Ade Jimoh fanclub, but this guy is a TD magnet--for the opposing team).

When do the Nemo authentics come out?

Really? When did you say he'd be the surprise player?
