According to Yahoo The Rookie to watch this season is:

Jason Campbell

It's not Alex Smith. I don't like the situation the No. 1 pick is going into with the San Francisco 49ers. He's going to get knocked around a lot, and we know that all rookie quarterbacks struggle. Plus he's on the worst team in the NFL.

The kid to watch is Campbell, the second of the Washington Redskins' two first-round picks. They traded up to draft him as their quarterback for the future, but how distant is that future? Is it right now? Is it midseason? We do know that Patrick Ramsey has not worked out as Joe Gibbs' quarterback.

While I think Ramsey's rank on the depth chart is secure, I won't be surprised if Campbell ends up starting towards the end of the season. And saying that, hopefully, it's a situation similiar to when Brady filled in for the injured Bledsoe and NE was cruising into the playoffs and not one where the season is lost and Gibbs wants to see if Campbell can spark a victory or two. Heck, I'm excited about about subbing Campbell in for Ramsey in Madden '06.

What a stout observation after 7 games.

All this Cambell speculation by the media cracks me up! Here's a trivia question for ya.

How many rookie QB's have started a game for Joe Gibbs?

Anyone know the answer?

And Ramsey (a first round pick) only had 2 years experience so Gibbs brought in Brunnell. Gibbs demands that veterans lead the way. Cambell will have to prove himself.

It will still be fun to watch him in preseason!

Ramsey will most likely (and in my opinion - hopefully) be starting for the next 3-4 years until Campbell is ready.

Ramsey is going to be the man this year. He'll get the job done.

Campbell is going to have to wait is turn.

Re: According to Yahoo The Rookie to watch this season is:

Lets not get all bent out of shape over something written by Chris Carter. If he was any kind of a talent scout he would't be writing for Yahoo! (an NFL powerhouse authority since...???). From an outsider looking in at this situation, saying things like, "I expect to see Campbell make the biggest impact of any rookie QB" makes sense. We had 2 different starting QBs last year and had a losing record. We have no other QB's other than the 2 we had last year and a rookie that we gave up alot to get.

Rothlesburger was the third QB taken in last years draft and went to a decent team with a great D and had great success. Its a safe bet that SF wont be doing much next year no matter how good their QB play is and Brett Favre's track record indicates that Aaron Rogers won't have much playing time next year. The only way you can say that is if you predict that Brett Favre will get injured in his last year and no one wants to be the dick to predict that...except maybe Javon Walker. lol

Alright, we can all answer the question "why did we draft Campbell?"

Quarterbacks get injured!!! If your offensive anchor goes down, your ship is going to stop moving...unless there is something else good in the wings.

Re: According to Yahoo The Rookie to watch this season is:

I don't know if anyone else feels this way, but I think Gibbs is going to give Ramsey a fully legit chance to lead this team. But seeing as to how Gibbs has repeatedly said he's trying to acheive something in the near future, he must have some inkling of faith that if needed, Cambell might be able to step up sooner than most of us would think. Plus even though he hasn't done something before (ie start a rookie qb) doesn't mean squat seeing as to how this year he's implementing several things he hasn't done either at all or very much of in the past. I want to see Cambell through training camp and some preseason action before I pass any judgement one way or another on his possible short term future with the squad.

Re: According to Yahoo The Rookie to watch this season is:

I am not sold on the idea that by drafting Campbell is a shot at Ramsey. If anything I would say that it is a shot at Brunell. I remember Gibbs being quoted saying "The most important player on a football team is the quarterback, the second most important player is the second string quarterback." So, if that is true I dont think that Gibbs would give Ramsey the job if he wasnt ready. Also, I think that shows that he really doesnt believe that Brunell has anything left. Just my thoughts...

No fooling.

Ramsey was entering his third year in the NFL and his intelligence is at genious level, and even by the end of the year he still hadn't become fully comfortable in with the understanding of Gibbs offense, and we are to believe Campbell is the kid to watch? A rookie coming in is going to succeed in Gibbs offense? a lot of these articles I am convinced are written by people who don't know a thing about sports or football, they don't have the ability to discern that certain situations can affect a QB's performance, a lot of these guy's just want to brush Ramsey aside because Gibbs keeps trading for other QB's, maybe Gibbs himself doesn't yet understand what he has in Ramsey but the kid is going to be outstanding this season if Gibbs can just coach on an average level, and if the Gibbs of old shows up Ramsey could very well vie for an MVP.
