Charactor And The Draft
Perhap's this question could be best answered by skinscanes, in an article on the official site gibb's has said charactor is the first thing we are looking for in the player we select in the draft, then football smart's then athletic prouous, with that said how do you think taylor and winslow break down charactor wise, I have heard a few thing's about winslow, but I haven't really deemed anything that he's done as perhap's being a bad guy, taylor I am a little less informed about his charactor, this may be the decieding factor in who we select?

I dont think either have negative character flaws. My opinion of what Gibbs means by that is the people that run there mouth off the field, and that have legal trouble. More and more players these days get into so many off the field incidences. Winslow once spoke out against the Canes and apolgized for and it never happened again. It was after the Canes first loss in years and everyone knew who was to blame, he just said it.
I dont think Gibbs' opinion on character has much to do with on the field trash talking. Porits, taylor and Winslow are all confident and want to win the game, but under a good coach that can just be motivation. Of course, thats if the team wins. The first times the Canes didnt, Winslow ran his mouth. So we just wont lose and we dont have to worry. Neither of them are liek T.O or Randy or any of htose type of players

I've never seen a Miami product that isn't a "character!"
I don't think that they're bred to be the "team player" that Gibbs is looking for... but g-damn - they sure can ball!!! |

Miami wouldnt be as good if they didnt play as a team. They are all gifted as all hell but as a Skins fan you know that means nothing if you cant play as a team. Ray Lewis has a lot of issues about his character, hell he potentially murdered someone. So why then does he line up with the Ravens offense to motivate them and get on them to play together? Portis has already shown that he awnts to do similar things in Washington

Say what you want about the Canes, they produce quality players and their percentage of NFL players who turn idiot (Bennie Blades, Irvin) is probably on par with any other school.. There are just so many more of them in the league it seems disproportionate.

Boy, you had me agreeing for a second there until you brought up Ray Lewis as the prototype for a team player. Besides the fact that his rediculous antics are "played" and well, rediculous - they seem much more suited for the WWF than the NFL. I keep waiting for him to rip his jersey off and ask us to "smell what he's cooking!" That's leadership?? That's a team player?? Hell no, that's just TV antics and entertainment. I think we all know that the only entertainment he should be doing is puppet shows in maximum security.
I could go on...I'm obviously not a Ray Lewis fan! But SkinsCanes - I wasn't trying to diss your school - I actually was trying to compliment them for being bad-ass, very talented players. I mean, "characters." |

There have been plenty of Canes that didnt make it, as with any school not every player is good in teh NFL. After Lewis and Sapp left thought the Canes werent allowed to recruit anymore. They had that privlidge taken away because they were paying players. Not until Portis' class were they able to recruit again. And as soon as they did they wont about 95 % of their games. REcruiting is where its at in college and if yoru school cant recruit then goodluck getting those eleite players.

and I dont care if you guys take shots at the Canes, its all in good fun and theres plenty of reasons to like adn love them. Im used to most of the country hating them becuase everyone roots for the underdog. Im sure if the redskins mentioned a player they really liked from another school thered be so other guy in this post saying he went to that school and rooting for them, I know ive got a bias for wanting the Miami Twins, but I try to leave that out when im anwsering questions about them.
