Inside the NFC

July 15 issue of Sporting News...

"Clifton Smith is making a run at earning significant playing time at middle linebackerfor the REDSKINS. Smith has something the other candidates lack: size. At 267 pounds, he can jam gaps and shut down the run..."

Re: Inside the NFC

Holy shit, 267 is huge for a MLB, even bigger than Trotter. Before we drafted McCune I really thought that Smith would be our starter. He was a hell of a player at Syracuse and has the potential to be very solid for us. I just think that McCune might be perfect to jump right in and contribute as a rookie. Holdman is a very good LB too but I see him more outside.

Re: Inside the NFC

Ive always heard nothing but good things about Clifton Smith, plus, the added bonus is that he's been in the system for a year and should be somewhat familiar with the requirements of Williams' D. If he steps forward, this could really, really solidify our defense. Does anyone know how smart this guy is?

Re: Inside the NFC

That is all they have about the redskins, the article contains tidbits of all teams in the NFC. I try to post everything that I can about the redskins when I get the latest issue of Sporting News...

Re: Inside the NFC

Smith will definitely be a player to watch in training camp.

Smith at 267lb?

He must have been taking his groceries home when they weighed him.
