War of the Worlds

Anyone seen the movie yet?

I saw it today and it was better than I had expected. I still think the radio broadcast is better because of the way it was done, with the news interruptions. You can't recreate that on the big screen. I'd like to read the book. It seems to be very prophetic of chemical and biological warfare.

Re: War of the Worlds

yeah I saw it wednesday and thought it was pretty sweet until the super quick and pretty weak ending. were u or anyone else who saw it suprised it got a PG-13 rating and not a R rating? not that I had anything against it, but the movie was kinda gory at parts. I think it was because it was a Speilberg project so they cut him some slack on the ratings

Re: War of the Worlds

VERY sweet movie. I've seen it twice looking for myself (I play an extra running for their life during the big battle on the hill. My parent's house is right over that hill) Did anyone else think that the soldier should have emptied a clip into the face of the alien at the end?

Re: War of the Worlds

I loved the first half of the movie... could not believe how horrible the ending was. I tried not to let it spoil the rest of the film, but the last ten minutes were awful. I think Spielberg's getting a bit darker (which is definitely cool), but it's like the studio made him change the ending or something. Perhaps they were running out of time or something (Lord knows they had the budget).

Re: War of the Worlds

Anyone who has read the book or heard the radio broadcast, what is SUPPOSED to happen at the end? I was also wondering why the aliens shield went down towards the end. Morgan Freeman's speech was too cryptic for me.

The endings in all three are quite similar

I thought the kid shouldn't have made it back. That WHOLE hill got lit up.

Re: War of the Worlds

Well maybe the whole hill got inferno-fied and left the opening about the size of a kid named Robbie. And why did he want to "see it"? I thought he was going to help. I don't mean to criticize, I loved the movie.

[Possible spoiler]

I think the Freeman speech mentioned something about the bacteria causing the downfall of the aliens. I'm not sure if it was directly related to the shields being down though...

I think that had to do with them controlling the shields, but in my opinion it was still very dissapointing to have all of the build up with the awesome action only to have the ending being crammed into a 5 minute sequence.

Re: War of the Worlds

Yeah, that's a little anticlimactic.
