Realistic Gardner Trades

What teams would want him, and what would we take for him?

As far as actual trade scenarios I'm still thinking about that but the first teams that come to mind for me are Chargers, Ravens, and 49ers

But what do you think they'd give up for him?

Well, they all have 2nd and 3rd round picks. I think Gardner could be had for a 2nd or 3rd. Preferably to San Diego for their 2nd, which is a high second

So let's say we trade Gardner to SD for the 2nd, then ship the 2nd and Trotter for a low first. So we take Taylor with the 5th overall and a defensive lineman late in the first round, maybe someone like Starks?

Do you think that's why they brought Thrash back, to try to trade Gardner??
I've read alot of trash talk about Thrash on here but I thought he did pretty well for us and certainly for Philly. I'm glad he's back. From what everyone else on here has said about Gardner, we might not get too much for him!!!!

I think they brought Thrash back because he's a solid player and person. He brings special teams skills and can be a good mentor for young receivers like Jacobs. Coles is clearly the no. 1 and with McCants resigning the Redskins are obviously committed to him.

So, I think you look at Gardner and you see a big, strong receiver who's already had a 1,000 yard career and you say well here's a guy who could get us something possibly in return and help us strengthen other areas. Gardner did struggle last year but I think he's capable of being a very good receiver and I imagine there are teams out there that recognize that

I think we'll package him up with Trotter/Betts/Trung/whomever we don't need (not all of these maybe 1 or two max) and maybe some picks next year for a high pick this year. I could see us trying for the Miami twins. I hope so!

Check out the Maske article here about the Gardner situation:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...2004Mar31.html

He seems to think Gardner is worth a second rounder to some team. I'd be psyched for that, if GIbbs is confident that the other receivers can do the job. He mentions that the Ravens are desperate for wideout help.

The Chargers or Jags 2nd round would be a good fit.

I bet there already have been at least five teams inquiring about him. I say the Redskins just hold out until a couple days before draft day and leak out that teams are contacting them to try and jack up the price like I'm sure the Jaguars purposely leaked info about the Redskins secret trade for Brunell because they probably thought the Redskins were low balling them. Then we get offered a first and attempt to package Trotter, Betts, Canidate, and/or next years picks (I know, I wish we'd keep the picks) and move into the top 10-15

I think a lot of people r downplaying the future possibilities of Gardner. He's entering the prime of his career at 26 and when he was the #1 option WR in 2002 he led the team with 71 catches for 1006 yards and 8 TDs. He has a good mix of speed and size and could very well have similar or better #'s again if in the right offense. I see San Diego, San Fran, KC, and possibly even Atlanta as teams that would and should try to get him and a 2nd round pick would be a good bargain for a young, talented WR with a still somewhat unique build and 3 years of starting expirience. And with San Fran's lack of pretty much any offense now, may even be willing to part with both of their 2nd round picks this year for Gardner and maybe the skins 2nd or 3rd ound pick next year.

Miami Twins.... the ravens gave up their first in this years draft last year to get Boller. I think the Miami twins would have a much greater impact next year and in years to come then a decent QB

One unknown with RG - When his contract is up(I think it expires in 2005), will he demand No. 1 WR money (a la' peeless price)? If so, that might be part of the impetus to trade him. McCants, Thrash, and (for now) Jacobs would probably be quite happy to get No. 2 money.

RG is a perfect No. 2 and probably could be a solid, not spectaculor, No.1 (especially on a team with a good No. 2). As with the best No. 2 WR's, RG is really sort of a 1 1/2 WR.

He is not worth true No.1 WR money and I don't think he ever will be. Now may be the time to trade him while the rest of the league wonders if he can be.

I hope he's not stupid enough to ask for p. price type of money cuz while I still see him definitely as above average, he does not in any way shape or form deserve that kinda cash. like u said he'd be a solid #1 for a team w/o any real wr depth, but is still capable of having similar #'s to 2002 again every once in a while and thus still has decent trade value if it comes to that.
