Historic Redskins: ALBERT GLENN (TURK) EDWARDS
Historic Redskins: ALBERT GLENN (TURK) EDWARDS
I picked "Turk" Edwards to be my first Historic Redskins weekly feature for one reason and it's is you need to know about this guy and others to understand better the proud Redskins tradition. To quote Bob Marley who was a big Redskins fan "In this great future you can't forget your past". Having said that each week I will bring up the name and details about a great player or Coach or owner from the Redskins past. I would ask that you please just read about this player as a show of respect and if you know more or can google more and add to the thread please do. Remember to think about these guys in the context of the game when they played. Thanks for the history lesson, SBF.
I've heard of many of the old-time players, but it's definitely cool to have some background on them. |

Re: Historic Redskins: ALBERT GLENN (TURK) EDWARDS
Look at how well padded and protected those guys were. Good gosh man!
I've got a little more about "Turk" I'll add to this thread from the Corrine Griffith book "My Time with the Redskins" where these guys didn't do this for fame and much money. Turk got $150 a game and that was a lot for back then and he still had to get a off season job to support his family like all players then. I also like the fact he went from Player to Coach too. Thanks mike

Re: Historic Redskins: ALBERT GLENN (TURK) EDWARDS
Great stuff! Who is number 22 in the picture? I can't make out his signature (Chuck... something) but he sure is an odd-looking dude, isn't he? It's funny, the picture is from 70 years ago, and the guys sure don't look all that athletic, but I guess they had to be tough with no pads, leather helmets, and no face masks.... Wonder what the 'perfect form' for tackling was back in those days?
